Conveniently located Ogden neighborhood

Mountain View sits a little over a mile north of downtown Ogden with access to dozens of retail and restaurant options as one of its most central residential neighborhoods. Single-family homes are cocooned by three main commercial streets. The fourth neighborhood boundary is the Ogden River. As the name suggests, the Wasatch Mountain range can be seen from every corner of Mountain View.

Older homes next to contemporary townhouses

Homes in Mountain View are gridded with sidewalks and street parking. Minimal traditional single-family homes and bungalows with front porches are common. These properties were built in either the 1910s or 1950s, spanning 1,500 to 2,000 square feet and are priced $275,000 to $325,000. Additionally, there are a handful of Tudor-style homes and Queen Annes with Victorian-inspired architecture such as pointed roofs, bright colors and a decorative exterior design. These properties are dated as early as the 1890s, range from 3,000 to 4,000 square feet and cost from $475,000 to $625,000. “The houses have a lot of character, and people love to restore them,” says Real Estate Agent Jenny Erb, owner of 801 Realtors. “They sell quickly, usually within two or three weeks.” Mountain View also has multi-family housing options, including several traditional condominium complexes and rows of attached townhouses. Most of these buildings have brick exteriors and were built in the 1980s. Prices fall between $220,000 and $315,000 for units that are 900 to 1,500 square feet.

Shopping and Dining on 12th and Wall

The neighborhood has three main roads dedicated to shopping and dining. The 12th Street commercial corridor is lined with fast food options, including KFC, Chipotle and Jersey Mike’s Subs, among dozens more. Señor Pollo Mexican Grill and LoLo Hawaiian BBQ are both local restaurants serving authentic international cuisine. There are also two grocery stores on 12th Street: WinCo Foods and Natural Grocers. For more options, Wall Avenue has a mix of regional chains. Beans & Brews Coffeehouse has gourmet beverages, while Cafe Zupas specializes in salads and sandwiches. There are also several small businesses and commercial services along Wall Avenue – everything from auto shops to locksmiths. Washington Boulevard has multiple traditional Mexican restaurants mixed between commercial spaces. Less than 2 miles from the neighborhood is Ogden’s downtown area and the Historic 25th Street. In addition to its locally owned shops and eateries, downtown also has numerous attractions. The historic Union Station is now home to multiple museums and the Ogden Amphitheater regularly hosts live performances.

Parks and green spaces along Ogden River

Though a majority of the neighborhood is residential and commercial, there are a handful of green spaces in the area. High Adventure Park has multiple playground areas that include rope climbing structures, slides and a rock wall. There are also picnic tables and public artwork on display. The park is one of many green spaces sitting along the 17-mile Ogden River Parkway, a multi-use trail that follows the Ogden River. “The trail stretches across the whole city and connects to some really cool spots. It's probably one of our most frequently used trails,” Erb says. Walkers and bikers can head three-quarters of a mile east along the trail from High Adventure Park to Spencer Fox Eccles Pioneer Stadium, which regularly hosts derbies, rodeos and The Horse and Hitch Parade. Next door is Lorin Farr Park, which has open grassy fields, a skate park and a public pool.

Getting around Mountain View

Mountain View’s central location provides plenty of access to major roads. U.S. Route 89, known as Washington Boulevard, runs along the neighborhood’s east side and can take drivers over a mile south into downtown Ogden. Wall Avenue, or Utah state Route 204, travels along the west side. Mountain View’s northern area is hugged by 12th Street, which turns into Canyon Road as it heads east into the Wasatch Mountains. Additionally, the Utah Transit Authority has local bus stops scattered along Washington, Wall and both 12th and 17th streets. There’s also Ogden’s Light Rail Station a mile away. The Ogden Regional Airport is about 5 miles south, with limited commercial flights.

A church’s impact on the community

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a location on 15th Street and provides humanitarian relief through community outreach efforts, such as overseeing and providing donations to Bishops’ Storehouse, a supermarket on Lincoln Avenue that gives free groceries and supplies to those who qualify.
