Active community close to the mountains
Mt. Ogden garners its name from Mount Ogden, of which the neighborhood is situated at its base. The community is comprised of numerous parks and a vast network of trails. “The neighborhood has always been highly desired since it’s right up against the mountain,” says Residential Real Estate Specialist Robert Matasic with PPC Realty, who has almost 20 years of experience and lives in Mt. Ogden. “The beauty is spectacular, with all the eclectic homes and the mature landscape.”
Mountain trails and community parks
Mt. Ogden’s location along the Wasatch Mountains creates ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. The neighborhood’s entire eastern area is taken up by Mt. Ogden Park and its expansive grassy fields. There’s a playground, a picnic table pavilion for relaxing and pickleball courts. “On a weekend in the summertime, the soccer fields are loaded with people,” Matasic says. “The park is a central place where people like to congregate.” Additionally, the Mount Ogden Golf Course is a public, 18-gole course sprawled throughout the green space. Farther south is Marquardt Park, which has a playground and multiple walking trails.
In addition to the parks, the neighborhood has a myriad of connecting trails in the east. The 27th Street Trailhead travels into Taylor Canyon, while the 36th Street Trailhead follows the Strongs Canyon. The 29th Street Trailhead leads to Waterfall Canyon, which has a towering cascade. “It’s amazing to see the amount of people that come through for the trails,” says Matasic. “There are several bridges and streams along them, and a waterfall.” The Snowbasin Resort sits at the top of the mountain, which is about a 20-mile drive. As one of the oldest operating ski areas in the country, Snowbasin has over 20 trails and several gondolas that take visitors to them.
Single-story and multi-family housing options
Homes in Mount Ogden sit along winding, tree-lined streets. Many properties have manicured lawns and driveways, though there is plenty of space for street parking. Brick ramblers and single-story, mid-century modern homes are common, with most having been constructed in the 1940s or 1960s. These houses span 1,800 to 3,000 square feet and range from $275,000 to $600,000. Split levels and bilevels in the neighborhood go for $550,000 to $600,000. Additionally, there are a handful of traditional condos in Mt. Ogden that are multi-level buildings with single-story housing units. These properties span 900 to 1,500 square feet and are priced around $300,000 to $400,000. “Ogden is unique. It’s one of the few places in the world where you can buy homes near a ski resort for under seven figures,” says Realtor David Willis with Equity Real Estate, who has over 15 years of experience.
A community that sticks together
While there are no homeowners associations in Mt. Ogden, the community still hosts social events, such as a fall festival, that bring people together. “They’re all-inclusive for anyone who is interested in getting to know their neighbors,” Matasic says. Just Serve Ogden is an organization that hosts service projects where people can help spruce up areas in need. Every spring, the group picks among blocks within the neighborhood to beautify.
Quality schools within the Ogden City School District
Children in Mt. Ogden can attend either Polk Elementary or Wasatch Elementary School, depending on where they live in the neighborhood. Both schools earn B-plus grades from Niche and have a Beverly Taylor Sorenson drama and arts program. Mount Ogden Junior High School has a C-plus and is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme. Ogden High School maintains a B rating and, according to Niche, is the No. 7 best public high school in Weber County. Students can follow an IB Program or Advanced Placement Program.
Weber State University’s Ogden Campus is located directly south of the Mt. Ogden neighborhood. Founded in Ogden, Weber is considered the state’s first comprehensive regional university. Of the roughly 30,5000 students enrolled, 75% are local, graduating from the surrounding counties, Weber and Davis.
Ogden’s nearby shops and restaurants
Although the neighborhood is primarily residential, there are a handful of local restaurants along Harrison Boulevard. Taboo Pizza specializes in gourmet pies, while Don Carlos Street Tacos serves traditional Mexican. Grounds for Coffee has an espresso bar and various breakfast bites. The Newgate Mall is roughly 3 miles southwest and has dozens of department stores and national brands, including Dillard’s, Bath & Body Works and Famous Footwear. There are also multiple chains and local restaurants surrounding the area. Moore’s Family Restaurant makes breakfast and burgers, and Napoli’s Italian Restaurant is more upscale with authentic international dishes. Macey’s and Costco are grocery store options in the area. Additionally, Ogden’s Historic 25th Street is about 3 miles northeast of the neighborhood and is another hub for shopping and dining.
Getting around Mount Ogden
With its wide, connecting streets and sidewalks, Mt. Ogden is an easy neighborhood to navigate. “It’s very walkable. Everybody is always out and about, riding scooters, pushing strollers and socializing,” Matasic says. There are several bus stops along 30th Street and Harrison Boulevard. Harrison Boulevard, also known as Utah state Route 203 or 1200 East Street, leads drivers around the neighborhood. Utah state Route 79 runs east to west and leads to the Ogden-Hinckley Regional Airport, about 5 miles away. Downtown Ogden is roughly 3 miles west, while Salt Lake City is about 34 miles south.
Close proximity to downtown attractions
With downtown Ogden and its Historic 25th Street only 3 miles away, the neighborhood has access to multiple events, attractions and entertainment. The Monarch, appropriately adorned with a butterfly mural, is an artist collective that serves as the community’s arts and events center. Sports fans can catch a game at Lindquist Field, home of the Ogden Raptors, a Minor League Baseball (MiLB) team in the Pioneer League. There’s also the Ogden Pioneer Stadium, which hosts annual rodeos. In the warmer months, the Ogden Amphitheater regularly welcomes live music.
