An idealistic suburb with plenty to do nearby

Situated between Lake Hefner and the Northwest Expressway, Briarcreek offers easy access to a plethora of entertainment, retail and dining options. However, its enviable location is only part of the reason people flock here. “It’s kind of a hidden jewel in northwest Oklahoma City, with a great atmosphere,” explains Kathy Parker, a top Realtor with eXp Realty who has lived in the city for nearly 25 years. Strolling through the quiet, winding streets around the neighborhood’s cul-de-sacs and past evenly spaced rows of matching mailboxes, it seems like Briarcreek is a textbook example of a suburb.

The homes of Briarcreek

Many of Briarcreek’s residents are as established as the mature post oak trees found dotted throughout the neighborhood. “Having only one or two longtime owners is pretty typical of homes here,” says Parker. The residential streets are lined with late-20th-century small brick townhouses and Traditional-style homes, which sit on the lower end of the price range at just above $200,000. Alongside these are ranch-style homes with broad lawns and in-ground pools that list for closer to $390,000. Though there is no presence of a homeowners association, yards are kept neat thanks to the prideful homeownership of residents.

Hibachi at Tokyo Moon OKC

When it’s time for a grocery run, locals head to nearby Crest Foods on the other side of West Hefner Road. Retail stores like Target, T.J. Maxx and more are located at Rockwell Plaza, which is less than a mile south. After a day of shopping, residents can enjoy a Mediterranean-inspired dinner from Haydeh’s Bistro or a hibachi experience at Tokyo Moon OKC.

Annual River Festival

Situated just east of the community is popular Lake Hefner. The lake is home to the annual Stars and Stripes River Festival and Block Party. The event is a celebration of water sports like rowing and paddling, and onlookers take advantage of food from local vendors. Residents of the surrounding area also head to the lake on Independence Day to enjoy fireworks.

College preparation at Putnam City North High School

When the school bell rings, young students head to Wiley Post Elementary School, which has received a C from Niche. Older students will attend Hefner Middle School, which has earned a B-minus from Niche, before enrolling at Putnam City North High School, which has a B grade. “My kids excelled there,” says Parker. “College was a breeze because they got a good education and took a lot of AP classes.”

Waterfront views at Lake Hefner

Events aside, Lake Hefner, which sits less than 2 miles east of Briarcreek, provides moments of tranquility year-round. Many residents head to the lake to walk their dog, explore the spacious playground at Stars and Stripes Park or catch views of passing sailboats. “The sunsets are gorgeous there,” says Parker. “It almost feels like you’re in a beachfront town despite being in Oklahoma."

Commuting from Briarcreek

Conveniently located nearby is the Northwest Expressway, which makes for quick trips to INTEGRIS Baptist Health Medical Center, which sits just 4.7 miles away. Those commuting to downtown Oklahoma can do so in a 14-mile drive via I-235 South, while Will Rogers Airport is 15.9 miles away along I-44. Meanwhile, those attending Oklahoma Baptist College can get to class in less than 2 miles along North Rockwell Avenue.

The planes of Wiley Post Airport

Sitting just a mile south of the community is Wiley Post Airport. Despite the absence of commercial airlines, private charter and jets flight do periodically fly in and out of the area. Those who are looking to move into the neighborhood should consider this is if sensitive to overhead noise.
