Renovated homes close to the Paseo Arts District

Between rolling hills and parks in uptown Oklahoma City lies Central Park. Just north of the Paseo Arts District, this enclave offers residents easy access to dining and entertainment options. Most of the neighborhood’s turn-of-the-century homes have Craftsman or revival-style flair and have been updated in recent years. Three parks within walking distance

True to its name, Central Park is close to several community parks, with the Memorial, Crown Heights and Edgemere parks all within a quarter mile of the neighborhood. The largest of the four parks, Memorial Park, also happens to be one of the oldest parks in OKC after being remade from the original Putnam Park in 1928 to recognize soldiers who fought in World War I. Today, neighborhood kids flock to the park to enjoy the playground and splash pad, the Boys and Girls Club Recreation Center, soccer fields, walking paths, and basketball and tennis courts. Nearby, Jewel Box Theatre is Oklahoma's longest operating theater company and dates back to 1911. Local thespians join together to put on six shows a year in a traditional season.

Early 20th-century architecture

The community was developed around the turn of the 20th century, and many of its historic homes still stand today. Early 1900s Tudor and Colonial Revivals stand next to 1920s Craftsman and traditional-style homes. Houses here are “older but renovated,” says Christy Hawkins, a Realtor with Keller Williams Green Meadow. “We had lots of listings sold here last year,” she says, and houses tend to stay on the market for less than a month. Updated, move-in ready cottages and bungalows with 1,500 square feet can range from $170,000 to $300,000. Larger revival-style and renovated homes can cost between $400,000 and $525,000. Rare modern builds can range from $450,000 to $575,000.

Shopping & Dining in the Paseo Arts District

The Paseo Arts District is less than half a mile south of the neighborhood and lined with shops, restaurants and art galleries. More than 20 galleries showcase works from more than 80 artists along the two-block, curved street named simply “Paseo.” With roots in the Paseo Arts District Farmers Market, Flora Bodega is a worker-owned co-op and neighborhood grocery store with more than 60 local vendors. Picasso Café is a favorite among OKC dog lovers. Pup parents can order meals for themselves and their furry friends from the menu. The Other Room is the Picasso's bar-next-door with its own cocktail menu and half-price appetizers. Closer to home, Iron Star Urban Barbecue is at the northern tip of the neighborhood and specializes in fine dining imbued with smokehouse flavor. Classen is a go-to spot for groceries, with Homeland a mile and a half down the road and Chinatown Supermarket and Super Cao Nguyen specialty markets along the way.

Neighbors create a pollinating powerhouse

The well-maintained lawns and gardens throughout the neighborhood reveal the green thumbs of many Central Park residents. A bison statue stands guard over the Central Park Community Garden at the corner of Northwest 31st Street and North Shartel Avenue close to Paseo. The community garden not only serves as a habitat for native pollinators but also a visitor-friendly gathering and educational space.
