“This place I am hoping to get to is so marvelous that if I described it to you now you would go crazy with excitement,” says the wily title character in Roald Dahl’s famous children’s novel, “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” At the risk of prompting such wild enthusiasm, Jennifer Hodge, an ERA Courtyard Real Estate listing agent, describes this northwest Oklahoma City den as “peaceful, quiet and conveniently located.” She explains: “The atmosphere and location are definitely the primary draws to Fox Run. It’s right next to the turnpike so you have an easy drive from here to anywhere in the city, but there’s not a lot of traffic in the neighborhood itself.”

1970s and ‘80s-era ranch-style homes line the tranquil residential streets in Fox Run. Hodge observes: “They’re more interesting than a lot of ranches. These aren’t your standard all-brick, plain, single-story houses, they have more character.” Many feature Contemporary or Shed-influenced architectural details, from steeply pitched roofs with dramatic low-hanging eaves to vertical or diagonal wood siding and hidden front doors. They range in price between $165,000 and $250,000, with the median hovering around $195,000. “That’s a little below the median for the city, but it’s also below what you’ll see in other communities around here,” says Hodge, noting that home prices in neighborhoods nearby can climb as high as $500,000 or $600,000. For a three-bedroom, two-bathroom Contemporary ranch-style home, built in 1984, clad in cedar shake shingles and brick, and featuring a recessed front door and original hardwood flooring throughout, you can expect to pay around $170,000.

Fox Run cubs attend schools in the highly sought-after Putnam City Schools system. Youngsters between preschool and fifth grade go to Dennis Elementary, tweens between sixth and eighth grade go to Hefner Middle and older students finish off their grade school careers in ninth through 12th at Putnam City North High School. All three schools are highly rated by Niche. Dennis earned an A-minus grade in 2023, while both Hefner and P.C. North earned B-pluses. They’re located close to home, too. Hefner Middle is the farthest from the neighborhood, but still less than 3 miles away, off MacArthur Boulevard. Dennis Elementary and P.C. North are both just a mile and a half away, next to each other off Rockwell Avenue. Hodge notes that the Frances Tuttle Technology Center is nearby as well. “They offer tons of co-curricular and continuing education-type courses there, but it’s also a big employer in our area,” she adds.

But less than a mile south of the Kilpatrick Turnpike, Fox Run’s location is good for more than just great schools. “The benefit of the turnpike is that it’ll get you anywhere in the city in 15 minutes. Being right there almost next to it, you could be in Edmond or downtown OKC in 15 minutes,” explains Hodge. But for your everyday essentials, and even date night, you don’t even have to spend that long in the car. Your local Sprouts is just half a mile from most homes, at the corner of MacArthur and 122nd Street. Homeland is nearby, too, a little over half a mile west down 122nd to Rockwell Avenue. Off Memorial Road, which parallels the turnpike north of the neighborhood, Hodge notes that there are also “a ton” of dining options available. At the corner of Memorial and MacArthur, you’ll find Charleston’s and Bricktown Brewery, two local hot spots less than a mile away. Unable to choose between the two or to pick a particular favorite item on either of their menus, Hodge says: “There are just so many good options at both places.”

Residents don’t need to venture far for a breath of fresh air, either, with Lake Hefner and Bluff Creek Park less than 3 miles east. The lakefront offers almost 10 miles of paved, multiuse trails, and watersports from boating or paddleboarding to fishing. There’s even a city golf course on the southern shore. Bluff Creek Park, sprawling over nearly 300 acres of the lake’s northern shoreline, also offers trails. These are more rustic, heavily wooded and packed-earth trails, dotted with exercise equipment and picnic areas.

Easy access to a myriad of amenities without sacrificing a quiet, suburban atmosphere? It’s easy to get excited about this northwest Oklahoma City haven.
