Community park and golf course with rich history
Generations of families have played rounds at Lincoln Park Golf Course, which celebrated 100 years in 2022. The course has made headlines over the years, including in 1961, when it hosted a match between two of the best golfers in the world – Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. Palmer came out on top, winning by seven strokes. Today, golfers can take their pick from the 18-hole east or west courses with rolling hills and mature trees dotted along the fairways. The course is part of the larger Lincoln Park, where locals can go for a stroll along paved walking paths or play a match on the tennis courts. Along with the numerous entertainment venues in the neighborhood, locals have prime access to some of the city’s best restaurants along the 23rd Street Corridor. Among them is James Beard award winner, Florence’s, which has been serving up classic soul food, like yammed fried chicken and smothered pork chops, since 1952. The restaurant was also featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives for its fried ribs. Scrambl’d is another favorite among locals for its lively brunch and cocktails.
