Historic military community in OKC's urban core
Military Park was once home to the Oklahoma State Military Institute for a few years around the turn of the 20th century. Though the institute was not around for long, it left a lasting impression on the neighborhood surrounding it, resulting in its name of Military Park. Today, homebuyers flock to this small neighborhood near OKC's urban core for its location and beautiful historic homes. The neighborhood provides easy convenience to several major highways and is also close to several historic OKC neighborhoods.
Historic homes and new builds
Long stretches of residential roads are lined with an array of single-family homes. Everything from newly built Craftsman-style homes to traditional homes built in the 1930s can be found throughout Military Park. Homes tend to sell between $110,000 for cozy two-bedroom homes and $300,000 for remodeled properties, which is lower than houses in neighboring communities such as Epworth or the Shepherd Historic District. More than half the homes here were built before 1939, but it's an "up-and-coming area" despite its age, says Jenna Harper, a Realtor with Sotheby's International Realty. The neighborhood is "definitely not new," she notes, "but a lot of people in the city are starting to pour a lot of money into it and build lots of new apartments and restaurants nearby."
Nearby public schools
Kids in Military Park will likely start their education at Eugene Field Elementary School, followed by F.D. Moon Middle School and Frederick Douglass High School. Each school received C-minus grades on Niche. The neighborhood is also just minutes away from the historic Oklahoma City University, a private liberal arts institution that has stood tall since 1904.
Spend the day at Memorial Park
On sunny days, locals take to Memorial Park, which is located under a mile from the neighborhood. Kids can spend hours on the playground, and the splash pad offers cool relief on scorching summer days. For indoor fun, children can head to the Boys & Girls Club on park grounds. Locals head to Edgemere Park, located just 2 miles away from Military Park, to watch the sunset and walk along the park's paved trails.
Easy traveling around OKC
Military Park is stationed around four major highways in the OKC area: Route 66, Interstate 44, Interstate 235 and the Northwest Expressway. Many residents drive to get around, but public transportation is also available along Pennsylvania Avenue. The neighborhood is conveniently located just 5 miles from the downtown area.
Local spots along Classen Boulevard
Many of the area's best restaurants are along Classen Boulevard, including eateries in the Asian District. Locals love the banh mi and smoothies at Lee's Sandwiches, and it is often paired with a tasty smoothie. Café Kacao has been a local favorite at the corner of Classen and 33rd Street for more than a decade. Make sure to call ahead if you plan to stop by for brunch this weekend. Voted the best breakfast spot in the city in 2022 by the Oklahoma City Gazette, it could take a while to get a table at this popular Guatemalan-inspired café.
