Rows of triangular gray roofs can be spotted from a distance before even entering Mustang Valley. The community holds strong connections to both the city of Mustang and Oklahoma City, since it’s situated between the two. Easy access to Interstate 40, Interstate 44, and John Kilpatrick Turnpike gives these contemporary subdivisions a streamlined path to both cities while surrounding farmland and forests provide a cushion from the sights and sounds of each.

Contemporary subdivisions with modern amenities

Walden Creek, Cedar Ridge and Crystal Hill Estates are some of the modern subdivisions welcoming new residents in Mustang Valley; a few finish construction as late as 2024. The amenities offered by each community are fairly consistent: fitness rooms, a clubhouse and a community pool afforded by mandatory HOA membership. Homes have plenty of lawn space in the front and back to landscape within HOA guidelines and install in-ground pools. These brick or stucco Modern Craftsmans range in price from $240,000 for 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms to $650,000 for a 4-bed, 3-bath.

Once a Bronco, always a Bronco

As this neighborhood’s name suggests, kids in Mustang Valley fall into the highly rated Mustang School District. They don’t need to leave their neighborhood for kindergarten through grade 4, since Mustang Valley Elementary School sits at the center of the community. The school earns an A-minus from Niche. From there, students move to Canyon Ridge Intermediate School, which earns an A, and Mustang North Middle School, which earns an A-minus. Mustang High School earns a B-plus and boasts a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center and sports facilities.

Visiting Wild Horse Park

Wild Horse Park, Mustang’s main outdoor activity center, is 5 miles away for the Mustang Valley community. Rock climbers, baseball enthusiasts and casual hikers practice their chosen crafts here. The playgrounds at Wild Horse and at Brittany's Play Adventure across the field are popular with locals when the weather is on their side.

From youth sports to local events

Youth sports take center stage in Mustang, and locals can be found taking their kids to soccer games at Mustang Youth Soccer Association on the weekends or watching a Mustang High School football game. The Mustang Parks & Recreation department sponsors local events like keynote speakers and painting nights year-round. Residents can head into downtown OKC for more events.

Shopping and dining in nearby Mustang

Mustang Valley residents are just 5 miles from the small city of Mustang. They can drive to the Mustang Trade Center shopping mall for most of their essentials as well as weekend fun. For groceries, they can choose from Walmart Super Center, Lowes and Cash Saver within the shopping center. Residents try to hit a strike under colorful lights at Bronco Bowl or take the kids down the strip to Playbox Indoor Playland before grabbing coffee at Wild Hero Coffee Company across the street. Local restaurants like Toledo’s Mexican Grill sit along Ohio State route 4, across from Mustang’s parks and sports complexes.

Getting around OKC: an intuitive grid

Mustang Valley communities are tucked into the bend of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike toll road. They can take this road to reach Interstate 40 towards downtown OKC in 13 miles or Will Rogers World Airport in 8.5, but taking other routes does not add much driving time thanks to the organization of the area’s roads. “That’s the great thing about OKC neighborhoods: they're in an actual grid,” says John Upshaw, Realtor with Upshaw Real Estate Group at Whittington Realty. He has sold homes in multiple Mustang Valley communities and has lived in the suburbs surrounding OKC for over a decade. “Everything literally is in square miles, with names running from north to south and numbers from east to west. It’s super easy to navigate and to get from place to place.”

Airport considerations

Though residents are near the Will Rogers World Airport, noise from incoming and outgoing flights isn’t overwhelming to most. “I've grown up in the area all my life and it’s never been an issue,” Upshaw says. “Everyone’s preferences are different, but my wife who grew up near a train station described it as not any more different from a train going by.”

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
