Suburban Northridge sits 15 miles from downtown OKC

In the western reaches of Oklahoma City, residential neighborhoods like Northridge maintain a quiet, suburban feel while still being connected to the metropolitan area. “It’s a pretty residential area, really close to the Northwest Expressway,” says Jenna Lovelace, senior communications manager for VisitOKC. “That’s one of the main veins in Oklahoma City.” Big-box shopping along the Expressway ensures that residents don’t have to go far for essentials, and downtown OKC is about 15 miles away via Interstate 344, located nearby. Northridge also enjoys proximity to nature, with Lakeshore Park, along Lake Hefner, less than a 5-mile drive.

Ranch-style and contemporary homes in residential neighborhood

Northridge is an almost entirely residential neighborhood made up of single-family homes, but a few apartment buildings are sprinkled along its east side. Stately trees lend shade to lots that can measure up to a third of an acre, with tidy front lawns and paved driveways. Some parts of the neighborhood have sidewalks. Homes were mostly built in the late 1970s to mid-'90s and include ranch-style homes with attached garages and brick contemporary houses. Prices range from about $175,000 to $300,000. The median home price in Northridge is $213,000, which is low by Oklahoma City standards, where the median home price is $266,000, and nearly half the national median of $417,000.

Although there are no parks in Northridge, the neighborhood is close to Lake Hefner, less than 5 miles away. Hiking trails and bike paths crisscross the fields at Lakeshore Park, punctuated by baseball diamonds and outdoor exercise equipment. Anglers cast lines for walleye and bass right from the water’s edge. Tornado risk year-round

Oklahoma City’s tornado risk is much higher than the national average, with the city experiencing an average of five severe tornadoes annually. The risk is present year-round but is higher from March through May. This can drive up homeowners’ insurance premiums. One of Oklahoma City’s 36 fire stations operates near North Council Road, so buyers in that area might also be subject to noise from fire engines.
