A tranquil lake with waterfront properties is something one might not expect near downtown Oklahoma City, but that’s exactly what the Silver Lake neighborhood offers. “It’s a nice, secluded spot in the middle of the city,” says Carter Cooper, Realtor Associate with McGraw Realtors. ” While Lake Hefner nearby may be the main attraction, the neighborhood sits on the banks of the smaller Silver Lake, from which it gets its name. Large, spacious waterfront properties are common, and many residents have docks with small boats and watercraft. While seclusion is undoubtedly a bonus, the neighborhood is still within city limits, and a trip down the Northwest Expressway will connect residents to the vibrant areas of downtown Oklahoma City, just 14 miles away.

A sailing destination
Most neighborhoods are lucky enough to have one lake, but Silver Lake has two for residents to explore. Lake Hefner has miles of hiking and biking trails, and fishermen can drop a line hoping to catch catfish, crappie, or a prized large-mouth bass. The famous Oklahoma Winds have turned Lake Hefner into a sailing destination. “It is one of the best sailing lakes in the country,” Carter says. “People go out onto the water and watch the sunset.” Those looking for recreation on land can head to the baseball diamonds, playground, and skatepark found at Stars and Stripes Park nearby. Golfers flock to the Lake Hefner Golf Club to enjoy the 18-hole course with scenic waterfront views.
Waterfront mansions, often featuring docks and swimming pools, shine in Silver Lake.
Mansions with boat docks and swimming pools
Silver Lake was originally a seasonal escape. “The neighborhood was initially a set of summer cabins built in the 1940s for those looking for a lake retreat,” says Cooper. Those summer cabins have since been replaced with expansive waterfront mansions, often with a dock and swimming pool. Bridges are common as the neighborhood’s streets wind throughout Silver Lake’s coves and outcroppings. Smaller ranch-style residences with two-car garages can be found in the northern section of the neighborhood. “Prices range from $170,000 to $350,000 with some million-dollar homes mixed in,” says Cooper.
