Nature-rich but not in the boonies
Summerfield is surrounded by natural amenities, from the rustic woodland in Bluff Creek Park to the west to the manicured fields of the North Oklahoma City Soccer Club to the east. Lake Hefner is nearby, too, on the neighborhood’s south end. But with West Memorial Road just a couple of miles north, teeming with some of the most popular shopping and dining destinations in northwest Oklahoma City, Summerfield is anything but isolated. Its price point, hovering at around the median for the city, and selection of classic 1980s homes, merge with location to make it what Chelle Greene calls a great “transitional” neighborhood. “It’s a nice area for whatever life stage you’re in, it just suits all kinds of lifestyles,” says the Re/Max First Sales Associate, who has nearly two decades of experience working with clients buying and selling homes in the area.

1980s homes priced under the median
Prices here run anywhere from $260,000 for three-bedroom, three-bathroom Contemporary ranch-style homes to nearly $400,000 for four-bedroom Farmhouse-inspired Traditional-style homes. Most of these well-maintained homes were built in the early to late-1980s, but some are as new as the mid-1990s. They feature attached garages and spacious, well-maintained lots, with backyards often enclosed by tall privacy fences. Front yards aren’t interrupted by sidewalks, but there aren’t any through-streets here, which prevents a lot of traffic in the neighborhood. Green says the neighborhood is suitable for a range of life stages. “It’s a good environment for young families and new couples as well as people on their own looking to downsize,” she says, adding that it’s the price point and atmosphere that make Summerfield so desirable.

Lake Hefner, Bluff Creek and Pat Murphy Parks
The northern shore of Lake Hefner is less than a mile from most homes, just across West Hefner Road. Locals can boat, jet ski and paddleboard on the water, or catch walleye, catfish and hybrid striped bass. And with nearly 10 miles of paved, multiuse trails meandering around the waterfront, sunny sports fields, a playground and an airfield for model planes, there’s plenty for landlubbers to enjoy, too. Bluff Creek Park stretches between Ann Arbor Avenue and Wileman Way to the west and North Meridian Avenue to the east. That’s more than 170 acres of Summerfield, full of natural woodland webbed with rustic packed-earth hiking trails and paved bike trails. There are also three picnic pavilions, with grills and outdoor exercise equipment scattered throughout the park. The Pat Murphy Park playground is off West Hefner Road at the southern end of Bluff Creek and offers classic climbing structures on a springy play surface.

NOKC Soccer Club
Local youth can burn off some energy after school by joining a soccer program at the North Oklahoma City Soccer Club (NOKC). Off Portland Avenue on Summerfield’s east side, the club draws young soccer players from all over the city. Gabi Noble, President of the volunteer board for the NOKC Soccer Club, says “it’s not about winning.” Her favorite aspect of the club is the services it provides to the local youth, giving them not only a great opportunity to get in motion but the “long term love and support” that kids crave.
