Suburban Neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska
Douglas County 68122, 68134
“When I think of Cherry Hills, I think of neat, tidy, tree-lined streets with sidewalks, pretty yards and well-designed homes from the ’80s and ‘90s,” says Andrea Lane, Realtor with BHHS Ambassador Real Estate. “It’s also super close to schools, shopping and restaurants, and you can quickly jump on Interstate 680 to get where you need to go.” Cherry Hills is also known for its popular dining scene, with several options just a short drive from home.
While Cherry Hills has some houses that were built just after WWII, a majority of the neighborhood developed between 1980 and 1999 and features two- and three-story homes with three, four and five bedrooms. A four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with 2,100 square feet and a brand-new designer kitchen can be found for $335,000. A postcard-pretty, three-bedroom split-level home with two fireplaces, recent updates, and a lovely back deck and yard was recently listed for $339,900.
Prairie Wind Elementary opened its doors in 1994, serving students in pre-K through fifth grade. Niche ranks it as the seventh most diverse public elementary school in Nebraska. Alfonza W. Davis Middle has sixth through eighth grade and is also highly ranked for its diversity, while also offering honors courses, as well as specialty classes in anthropology, pottery and service learning. Omaha Northwest Magnet High has more than 40 honors programs and offers a Freshman Academy to help first-year students plan for success throughout their high school careers.
Nearby Somerset Park features a playground, a baseball field, walking paths and easy access to Little Papillion Creek. Ten minutes away is Glenn Cunningham Lake, a 390-acre reservoir that's part of Little Papillion Creek, too. At more than 1,000 acres, this outdoorsy oasis includes camping, kayaking, boating, fishing and horseback riding.
Cherry Hills is close to plenty of popular restaurants. People walk to Legends Patio Bar, and it’s always busy. According to Lane, if you love Italian food, you cannot miss Mangia Italiana. "I’m Italian, so when I say they meet the grade, that’s high praise," she says.
A standout destination for hobbyists is nearby. One of national collectibles chain HobbyTown USA's most iconic spots – HobbyTown HobbyPlex – is in Cherry Hills. This indoor off-road RC (radio-controlled car) facility is nationally recognized. To find trendy women’s clothes, accessories and unique gifts, check out Four Sisters Boutique. Nebraska fans covet their seasonal line of sweatshirts and T-shirts that boast loyalty to the 37th state.
For groceries, you’ll find Walmart Supercenter close by on 99th Street, and 108th Street's Hy-Vee offers a bakery, floral department, pharmacy and local delivery.
“People love living here in Cherry Hills, and they tend to stay a while,” Lane says. “Homes don’t come on the market every day, but when they do, they sell quickly. The accessibility of the neighborhood and the quality of the homes are hard to beat.”
