“Home buyers in Dodge Street Corridor are quite savvy,” says Maria Astorino, Realtor with Nebraska Realty. “They get the best of nearby Dundee and Benson without the higher price tag.” Preservationists and old home lovers appreciate the opportunity to buy a 1920s cottage and still have enough resources left over to restore it with salvaged house parts and authentic upgrades. Turn-of-the-20th-century homes can still be found, with architectural details including front porches, gable roofs, original tile and stained-glass windows.

Dodge Street Corridor has about 600 homes within its 20-block area. You’ll find original, updated cottages and bungalows with two to three bedrooms. You’ll also find a few larger American Foursquare, and expanded two-story cottages. The neighborhood is a short walk to local restaurants, bars and shopping as well as to the trendy Benson arts district and historic Dundee. A thoroughly renovated, four-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom bungalow built in 1900 was recently offered for $269,900. An eye-catching, fully restored cottage built in 1919 recently sold for $265,000.

The public schools are another draw for history-loving Dodge Street Corridor residents. Not only is each school architecturally stunning in design, but they are highly ranked. Dundee Elementary offers Pre-K through Grade 6 and has an active and dedicated PTO. Lewis and Clark Middle and its partner Central High are both International Baccalaureate Program schools that offer many required and elective STEM courses. Niche gives Central High an overall A- rating.

Nearby 65-acre Memorial Park, founded in 1944 in honor of residents from Douglas County who served in the armed forces, is celebrating its 75th year in 2023. Notable events include a rededication, a new exhibit in the on-site Durham Museum and renovations to the stunning 2,500-square-foot plaza, making it more accessible to visitors and neighbors. New landscaping around the grassy hillside will draw attention to the one-of-a-kind bronze sculpture on loan to the park called “Embracing Peace” which evokes the iconic VJ Day photo of a sailor embracing a nurse. Summer concert series are a community favorite and often include fireworks.

Ahmad’s Persian Cuisine, founded more than 25 years ago in Omaha’s Historic Old Market, now has a smaller location with sidewalk seating at Dodge and 48th Street. Middle Eastern dolmeh, kebabs and fresh poultry and seafood items frequent the menu. Don’t miss their handmade Baklava. Panera Bread is around the corner on Saddle Creek Road and is a favorite spot for soups, sandwiches and morning coffee.

Walmart Neighborhood Market is right in the middle of Dodge Street Corridor with a bakery, deli and pharmacy. When you’re ready to put your personal touch on your yard or flower boxes, Indian Creek Nursery will give you the inspiration and plants that you love. Dundee Flea is a favorite place to find eye-catching, upcycled and vintage pieces for your new home. Nearby Albany and Avers’ collection of vintage, preowned and new women’s clothing has plenty of fans. They even offer sustainable items and curated bundles assembled by their creative owners.

If “historic”, “vintage” and “classic” are some of your favorite words, you’ll find it easy to call Dodge Street Corridor home.
