Suburban Neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska
Douglas County 68154
Ridgefield is a pocket-sized neighborhood of 300 custom homes, built around a picturesque park. But you'll need to look deeper than that to get a full picture of Ridgefield. Built in the 1980s and ‘90s, homes here often feature desirable exterior features, such as brick, stone and multi-gabled roofs. You’ll find two-story brick New Traditionals and one-and-a-half-story custom transitionals, some with beamed and vaulted ceilings, open floorplans, cedar closets and two-story decks. Other interior details include vaulted ceilings, his and hers master bathrooms and expansive eat-in kitchens with fireplaces. Beyond the showcase houses and lovely Ridgefield Park, this neighborhood really comes into focus when one realizes how incredibly close conveniences and luxuries are to home. As Nikki Diamantis, Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, says, “Ridgefield is super close to everything you could possibly want. Folks here like to say ‘that’s just around the corner!’ in a boastful way. Along with these gorgeous homes, it’s no wonder that properties sell fast around here.”
In the first six months of 2023, Four-bedroom custom brick and stone homes with 4,000 to 5,500 square feet have sold for $450,000 to $550,000. Depending on the extent of custom features and overall square footage, home prices in Ridgefield can reach $950,000.
Columbian Elementary School offers pre-K through sixth grade, has an A-rating from Niche and offers a program for gifted students. Beveridge Magnet Middle provides an emphasis on Arts and Global Studies while offering an extensive array of sports programs including football, soccer, basketball and swimming. Burke High School is notable for hosting the annual Nebraska State Track Meet, and for offering a unique Freshmen Academy that helps students transition to high school. Students select from one of three career academies to help prepare them for future education and career success: Air & Space, Communications & Marketing, and Business & Analytics.
Ridgefield Park is the neighborhood’s three-acre gem, with a playground, tennis court, walking paths and open space. It’s right in the middle of the neighborhood and accessible from most homes. You’ll find neighbors sharing walks, introducing their dogs to one another and swapping recommendations for interior decorators. If inland fishing is a passion, you’ll enjoy nearby Candlewood Reservoir’s 35 acres. Fans post their recent catches online and they also track peak times of the day to fish. Bluegill, largemouth bass, crappie and sunfish are the most frequently caught species.
Nearby dining favorites have been around for a while and for good reason. Charleston’s Restaurant, located across from historic Boys Town, has been a well-loved institution for more than 20 years. Try their Dynamite Shrimp or their grilled pork chops. Biaggi’s Ristorante is well-known for their creative specialties, their warm and welcoming environment and their dedication to providing plenty of gluten-free options.
Omaha has plenty of great shopping spots from downtown to Elkhorn. The west Omaha corridor between West Dodge Street and Blondo Street offers plenty of unique places to discover. Grae Clothing is an upscale but relaxed purveyor of menswear. From casual shirts and jeans to boots and belts, they’ll help you spruce up your wardrobe in a comfortable setting. Oak View Mall has over 50 retail stores including Bath & Body Works, Lids and rue21. When you’re ready to stock up on necessities for your new home, Costco is the place to go for bulk shopping. HyVee on North 132nd Street has groceries, a pharmacy and fresh plants and flowers from their garden center.
When you do need to drive further than ‘just around the corner’, it’s less than a 20-minute drive to downtown Omaha and several major employers including Offutt Airforce Base, Methodist Health System, University of Nebraska Medical Center and Berkshire Hathaway.
