About Orange City, FL

Vibrant shopping and dining in laidback city

Orange City bloomed in the 1800s, as residents moved to this Volusia County community to live among its many groves of bright citrus. Over the years, deep freezes wiped out many of the farms, but those winters didn’t keep the small community from finding ways to prosper. Today, Orange City is home to about 13,000 people and has made a name for itself as a comfortable, convenient city in Central Florida with amenities that are a big draw. “It’s become a hub for shopping and dining. You’ve got people coming from Deltona and DeLand to do big errand runs, find cool places to eat, and even get medical care,” says Chuck Shaver, Realtor with The Shaver Group of Keller Williams Heritage Realty, and a Central Florida resident since 1985.

Midcentury stucco homes and modern subdivisions

Residential streets are concentrated near the city’s north. They tend to be winding and flanked by trees, shrubs and other local plants. Architectural styles include everything from midcentury-era ranch homes and modern bungalows to stucco Spanish eclectic styles. Home ages vary as greatly as the architecture, with some built as early as the 1910s. “We’re primarily selling single-family homes, and a lot of new construction is going on. A lot of the people I work with mention they’re commuting to Orlando,” Shaver says. The median price for single-family homes is about $330,000, a bit lower than DeLand and about the same as Deltona. A small selection of condos and townhouses are also available, with a median price of almost $200,000.
