As the name suggests, life in Orange Cove revolves around citrus. Orange, lemon and other vibrantly colored groves surround the city for miles. The city lies in Fresno County, rooted at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east, about 35 miles from the city of Fresno to the west. Like most small towns in Fresno County, most people live in Orange Cove for the farming industry, as this is one of California’s top agricultural-producing regions. Despite being in such a rural location, residents don’t have to give up the essentials of suburban living. Within the city’s small grid, there are eateries, markets, community parks, schools and medical centers, allowing locals to live, work and play within a stone’s throw of home.

Sequoia National Park 30 miles east
J.O. Eaton Memorial Park on Park Boulevard, Sheridan Park on the east side and school athletic fields offer space to play in the city. However, this area’s main recreational attractions are Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east. Orange Cove Mountain is a small rocky hill that offers an easy hike just outside the city.
Thirty-five miles to Fresno
Agriculture is the dominant industry here and in most of Fresno County. Along with the miles of citrus groves surrounding the city, there are many produce processing and distribution centers. Aside from farming, folks might work at local businesses in town or at United Health Center-Orange Cove, the city’s small hospital. Fresno, California’s fifth largest city by population, is 35 miles west. The Fresno Yosemite International Airport is the closest place for commercial flights.
Dealing with droughts
Even though agriculture is the dominant industry here, Orange Cove only receives an average of about 12 inches of annual rainfall. Most of it comes during the winter. In contrast, the summer months have almost no rainfall and average high temperatures close to 100 degrees. These conditions lead to periods of drought, during which the city will restrict water usage. It’s best practice for residents to conserve water however they can. The Orange Cove Police Department serves the city; however, specific crime statistics for the area aren't available.
