Affluent community on foothills of Catalina Mountains
In the affluent Tucson suburb of Oro Valley, La Reserve is among the communities that hug the western foothills of the Catalina Mountains. Residents are treated to vistas of the valley and the nearby ridge, while bighorn sheep occasionally descend from the hills to visit the neighborhood. The terrain is ideal for biking, occasionally serving as a training ground for elite cyclists. La Reserve reflects much of Oro Valley’s appeal with its desert scenery and ample recreation. “It’s one of the newer areas of Tucson, so a lot of people love being up there,” says Karin Phillips, a Realtor with Realty One Group Integrity. “It’s quite nice. You’re so exposed to nature. Watching the sunrises up over the mountains in the morning is just very good. And also, watching the monsoon storms move across the mountains is quite breathtaking at times.”
Master-planned community with Spanish-influenced housing
La Reserve is a master-planned development consisting of several smaller subdivisions. Within the main gated community, dense groups of Spanish-style homes with tiled roofs and stucco exteriors are common. The housing in this area includes townhouses, attached patio homes and condos. Many condos belong to “snowbirds,” or part-time residents who come in from colder regions and often rent out the units during the remainder of the year. “One day, I held my open house. I didn’t have five minutes to myself, and it was snowbirds from all over the place, coming in, talking to me and inquiring about the condominiums,” Phillips says. While some can exceed the million-dollar mark, most homes range from $550,000 to $850,000. Condos go for between $230,000 and $350,000.
Hiking the Pusch Ridge
Whether it’s the nearby multi-use trails or the mountains, outdoor enthusiasts have quick access to several recreational activities. Passing behind the commercial corridor along North Oracle Road, the Canada del Oro River Park draws bikers and runners. The path is among several contributing to the Chuck Huckelberry Loop, a nearly 140-mile network that also connects to various parks and businesses. With their rocky terrain and cacti-covered landscapes, the Pusch Ridge and Catalina State Park are favorites among casual and serious hikers. The Pusch Ridge Course is a public, nine-hole golf course.
Access to strong Amphitheater Public Schools
Students in La Reserve may start at Copper Creek Elementary School, which gets a B-plus grade from Niche. They may then attend Cross Middle School and Canyon del Oro High School, which both get A-minus grades. Known for its focus on STEM, Canyon del Oro offers Girls Who Code and aeronautics clubs. In 2025, one of the high school’s faculty members was among the more than 300 nationwide recipients of a presidential award honoring math and science teaching. The neighboring business park is home to the University of Arizona’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Local and chain Mexican cuisine
The neighborhood borders the Rooney Ranch Shopping Center, which has rows of chain big box stores and restaurants. La Reserve also borders the Foothills Business Park, where the occupants include a Honeywell Aerospace facility. Dining options include Filiberto’s Mexican Food, a Southwest chain with locations mainly in Arizona. The Street Taco and Beer Co. serves authentic Mexican street fare and drinks in a fast-casual atmosphere. The small restaurant neighbors Fruit Shack Smoothies, which serves desserts and fresh beverages. Baggin’s Gourmet Sandwiches is another regional chain known for its rustic and Southwest-themed setting. Target and Fry’s Food and Drug is a nearby grocery option.
Down the road from Oro Valley Marketplace festivities
La Reserve is close to annual town events like December’s Oro Valley Festival of the Arts & Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration. Hosted at the Oro Valley Marketplace, the massive shopping festivity involves the sale of Holiday-themed items and crafts. The event also features food trucks, carolers and the Tuba Christmas, which consists of brass players from the local community and the University of Arizona.
North Oracle commute to Tucson
The community sits right along North Oracle Road — or Arizona State Route 77. A few Sun Tran bus stops exist on North Oracle, and the thoroughfare goes straight toward Tucson, about 11 miles south. The community is also about 15 miles east of Interstate 10, which connects the Tucson and Phoenix metros. Located about 22 miles south of Oro Valley, the Tucson International Airport is the metro’s hub for commercial flights. La Reserve is also a few miles south of the Oro Valley Hospital.
Important to know
La Reserve's overall CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, putting it below the national average of 4. The community may be at risk of potential wildfires. Oro Valley was among the places evacuated in 2020 during the "Bighorn Fire" in the Catalina Mountains.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
