Sitting 25 miles east of Cincinnati, Owensville is a haven for commuters who want a small-town atmosphere with less expensive homes than they could find in the city. “Route 50 is the heart of town,” says Donna Blankenship, Realtor with Keller Williams Pinnacle Group for 5 years. “Folks love the convenience of hopping on the highway for an easy commute in either direction.”

There's miles of farmland between Cincinnati and Owensville, until Route 50 becomes Main Street, home to mom and pop joints and side streets of homes. “The town center is only a couple of square miles, so people here truly have a neighborly spirit,” says Blankenship. Within the small Main Street area, homes range from $150,000 for a 1970s two-bedroom ranch-style to $300,000 for a 1970s four-bedroom ranch-style or split-level with a wraparound porch. About a mile outside of town, those with larger budgets can find homes on over 15 acres of land, like a four-bedroom ranch-style with a view of the prairie for about $700,000 or a three-bedroom Craftsman on a wooded lot for almost $800,000.

Students may be a part of the Clermont Northeastern Local School District, beginning at Clermont Northeastern Elementary, graded a B-minus by Niche. They move on to Clermont Northeastern Middle, rated a C-minus, and finish at Clermont Northeastern High, rated a C. The district brings the community together every year for the Fall Teach-N-Treat, where students and their families can learn about school programs, go for a hayride on an antique tractor and grab a bite from a selection of food trucks.

To enjoy the beautiful scenery, locals drive less than a mile from town to Pattison Park. This 45-acre wooded space has a paved walking trail and tranquil sitting areas around a fishing pond, along with a playground and picnic shelter. When the syrup starts flowing out of the maple trees in the winter, residents can experience the maple syrup production at Pattison Lodge. The community comes together to enjoy pancakes with hot maple syrup tapped from the surrounding trees at the annual Pancakes in the Park Breakfast. Come July, people head to the Clermont County Fair, which is held right off Main Street. The County Fair has all the usuals, like live music and food vendors, as well as small-town favorites like the Demolition Derby and Cutest Baby Contest.

Local businesses and eateries on Main Street, like Pig City Deli, serve hand-sliced sandwiches named after local characters and landmarks. Grab a pie at a local chain, Grammas Pizza. Other than a Dollar General, there isn’t really any shopping in town, so residents drive 9 miles west to Eastgate Crossing for Grocery stores like Kroger and Meijer, along with retail department stores at Eastgate Mall like Kohl’s and JCPenney. Living in Owensville means easy access to the city, while enjoying a quiet, small-town neighborhood.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
