Beachfront paradise
Under a half mile from the wide expanse of the Pacific is a small coastal community called Channel Islands. The Channel Islands neighborhood is in mainland California despite sharing a name with an island-based national park just off the coast. Tucked between the Oxnard Shores and Marina West neighborhoods, Channel Islands is known for its picturesque marina and relaxed lifestyle.
The Channel Islands Harbor Marina defines the neighborhood. With its network of channels and waterways, the marina is a haven for boating enthusiasts, offering over 400 slips ranging from 24 to 60 feet. “If you’re into sailing or deep-sea fishing—good news! So is everyone else in your neighborhood,” says Desti Centineo, an associate realtor at The Desti and Michele Team in Oxnard. “This community is centered around the ocean, so it’s the perfect place for people who love that lifestyle.”
You can find many homes throughout Channel Islands with private docks.

Driveways and docks
Living in Channel Islands requires embracing the waterfront experience. Spread between Victoria Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, Channel Islands streets are more like peninsulas than islands, with pedestrian and car access in the front and access to the Channel Island Harbor behind most homes. The harbor stretches between streets throughout the neighborhood and exits the mainland south at Hollywood Beach.
Channel Islands have condos, townhouses and single-family houses available for purchase. Many of the homes include private docks (community docks are also available) and are a mix of architectural styles, from Mediterranean-inspired villas to modern condos. Condos, on average, range in price from $600,000 to $1 million, and spacious single-family homes are priced between $2 million and $3 million on average.
There are large modern condo complexes aroudn the Channel Islands area.

Community celebrations
The Channel Islands community hosts recurring events, including holiday boat parades and summer concerts. One such event is the annual Fourth of July Fireworks by the Sea held at the Channel Islands Harbor. This event features a daytime electric boat parade, a farmers’ market and a late-night fireworks show.
In April, the harbor will host its 25th Annual Celebration of the Whales Festival, commemorating the gray whale’s migration through the Santa Barbara Channel. This channel has recently been designated the 9th Whale Heritage Area in the world through an initiative created by the World Cetacean Alliance to promote responsible ecotourism and maintain a safe and healthy marine environment. The Whales Festival will include a community mural project, a concert in the Harbor View Park and a farmers market with handmade crafts from local artisans.
The Channel Island's Farmers Market takes place on Sundays from 10-2pm.
On weekends you can find live music at Channel Island Harbor.

Living that Cali lifestyle
Just a couple of blocks west, Hollywood Beach features miles of tranquil sand and dunes, perfect for swimming, paddleboarding or long walks along the shore. Green spaces include Peninsula Park, a quaint city park with a small playground, and Westport at Mandalay Bay Park, which features winding walking paths, picnic areas and public restrooms.
For an immersive day in nature, locals can visit the stunning Channel Islands National Park and explore its unique flora and fauna. Private boaters can visit the islands without a guide, although the journey is only recommended for experienced boaters due to challenging weather conditions in the Pacific Ocean. Specific laws detail where private boaters can visit, so it’s recommended that locals plan their trips using the National Park Service’s website in advance. Public boat transportation and whale-watching trips are also available and are arranged by the Island Packers Cruises, the official boat concessionaire service for the Channel Islands National Park. Locals and visitors can take day trips or camp on the islands overnight if they adhere to the National Park Service rules and follow “leave no trace” environmental practices.
On rainy or cold days, locals can take a break from the beach to learn at the indoor Channel Islands Maritime Museum. This educational space offers exhibits on maritime history, including nautical art exhibits and detailed models of ships from across the world.
Oxnard's beaches feature walkways and seating perfect for relaxing.
