Nature and premier golf outside of Chicago
Named after two lakes that anchor a top Chicagoland executive golf course—Lake Irene and Lake Doughnut—residents from all over Palatine come to Twin Lakes. “You can rent paddleboats and spend the day on the lake,” says Galya Georgieva, an agent with Coldwell Banker Realty, who has over 10 years of selling experience in the area. “It’s a really great place to spend the day.”
Less than a 40-minute drive to Downtown Chicago, Twin Lakes offers homeowners plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities and a small-town lifestyle within reach of the big city.
Condos next to twin lakes
Those looking to move to Twin Lakes can choose between housing options in condominium complexes, townhouses and single-family homes. Ranches and split-levels with brick or vinyl siding constitute many of the single-family homes on the north side of the neighborhood, costing around $400,000. In the south of the neighborhood, condominium complexes offer families two-bedroom units that sell for around $200,000. Many are part of the Willow Creek subdivision. “It has a well-run association with lots of amenities, like a pool and a clubhouse,” says Dina Wasmund, an agent with Starck Real Estate of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. Among other perks, the Willow Creek Condo Association provides its residents with a lock-and-leave lifestyle.

A top Chicagoland executive golf course
Central to the community is the Twin Lakes Golf Course and Recreation Area. The golf course, and the surrounding neighborhood, named after two adjacent lakes—Lake Irene and Lake Doughnut, which features a small, circular island in the center. Though it’s considered one of the three best executive golf courses in the Chicago area, Twin Lakes Golf Course and Recreation Area offers more than nine holes. Part of the Salt Creek Rural Park District, visitors can enjoy the two lakes by boat. Fishing and even ice fishing passes are available for a low fee, and the park district authority rents out paddleboards and kayaks to visitors, keeping the lakes calm and safe by restricting motorboats. The park also features a gazebo for warm-weather picnics, a volleyball court and a playground for younger children. Residents who prefer to shoot hoops or play tennis and pickleball can head to Grealish Park, enclosed by a semi-circle of single-family homes.
