Curling around the tip of Terra Ceia Bay, Rubonia is known for its resort-style manufactured home communities, each one overflowing with amenities. “People come here because it’s a good community by the water,” says Louis Goff, president of the Rubonia Community Association.

You’ll find communities like Tree Lakes Association, with Tojo Lake at its center, Carlyn Estates Trailer Park and Fisherman Cove RV Resort, which is surrounded by nearly 30,000 acres of aquatic preserve and boasts a waterfront heated pool, spa, fitness center and more. Homes in these communities, and others like them, are predominantly manufactured houses that range in price from about $40,000 to $190,000. “We’ve got mostly single-family options here, some houses on the water and some rental apartments mixed in, but only about a dozen of those,” Goff says. “And the housing market isn’t crazy but it’s coming along. There are some newer houses being built in the area.” Homes come with screened porches, carports and more, all surrounded by lush green lawns and swaying palms. Many homes enjoy close proximity to community amenities like putt-putt, pickle ball, shuffleboard and great shopping and restaurants just minutes away down US-41.

Students in Rubonia can attend Imagine Charter School At North Manatee which serves grades K-12 and received a score of B- on Niche. Imagine Schools is a national group of public charter campuses that aims to prepare students to be accomplished leaders through strong character development. Palmetto High School is another option that originally opened in 1957, received a B rating on Niche and participates in the Cambridge AICE Program.

Stretch your legs at Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, which was created in 1995 and boasts nearly 2,000 acres to explore. Popular park activities include hiking, kayaking, fishing and more. While enjoying the trails, trek through mangrove forests and saltwater wetlands, which the park is working to revert from agricultural land back into natural habitats.

If you’re starting to get hungry, stop by The Sea Hut, where the crabs take center stage among classic surf ‘n’ turf dishes. Locals love the steaks and burgers as well, and consider it a true Old Florida restaurant. The Sea Hut has been serving the Rubonia community since the 1980s and puts special emphasis on supporting local farmers and locally sourced seafood. Grab your groceries at Uppy’s Convenience Store or pick up some fresh produce at the local farmer’s market, Corner Market.

If you’re itching to get out on the water, give Palm View Marina a try and experience excellent service and access to the clubhouse. “It’s great being so close to the water,” Goff says. “The fishing can be good depending on what you’re hoping to catch. I’ve heard good things about the crab.” And if you want to get more involved in the community, take advantage of all the opportunities Rubonia Community Center offers to get to know your neighbors and participate in a variety of programs and events.
