Palo Verde’s distinctive home styles and direct connection to the businesses of Silicon Valley make this Palo Alto neighborhood one of the most sought-after homebuying markets in the entire state. “There’s a very cool style to Palo Verde thanks to all the Eichler-designed houses that really make the neighborhood stand out,” says local librarian Robert Novak. “It’s also squarely in the middle of some major hubs of Silicon Valley businesses, so you see a lot of business-minded people come to this area.”

The narrow streets spreading through Palo Verde contain long lines of Eichler-designed homes that define California Contemporary. These beloved designs sport streamlined features like flat roofs with post-and-beam construction, an abundance of exposed wood and splashes of eccentric colors. Most of these modern masterpieces come with compact front lawns filled with diverse plant life standing along sidewalks lined with bushy trees and streetlamps. Some streets have more traditional Craftsman-inspired designs yet retain the charming surroundings of their contemporary neighbors. Timelessly designed townhomes offer simplified surroundings at prices ranging from $1.5 million to $2 million. The coveted California Contemporary homes range from $2.5 million for a two-bedroom ranch, with more elaborate designs and larger floor plans fetching as high as $5 million.

Just to the other side of Bayshore Road lies a treasure trove of outdoor activity easily accessible to residents of Palo Verde. The Baylands Nature Preserve contains vast swaths of marshlands featuring more than 15 miles of trails that spread across one of the most popular bird-watching destinations on the West Coast. Directly adjacent to the Baylands is the Stevens Creek Shoreline Nature Area, an equally impressive piece of the coastline featuring lakeside parks, a kite flying area and Shoreline Amphitheater, one of California’s premier music venues hosting large-scale festivals and major touring attractions throughout the year.

Sporting folks have much to love about living in Palo Verde. Both Baylands and Shoreline also feature their own championship-level golf courses, making Palo Verde a hotspot for golf aficionados. Diversify your workouts at the Palo Alto Family YMCA, a locally run non-profit providing a wide range of personalized training programs and classes appropriate for all fitness levels. Mix it up and bring your workout group to Palomo Archery, where certified instructors can help you safely become an expert archer. Hoping for a more educational experience? The Foster Museum displays the works of celebrated local artist Tony Foster, known for using watercolor to capture the natural beauty from his travels across the American West.

Young students coming to Palo Verde get to start their educations with the neighborhood’s namesake school, Palo Verde Elementary, which Niche grants an A+ rating while also calling it the No. 18 best public elementary school in the entire state. A short drive down East Meadow Drive takes middle school students to Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School, which Niche honors as the Bay Area's No. 1 middle school. Most Palo Verde students move on to Henry M Gunn High School, a California Distinguished School and Niche’s No. 1 public high school in the state, thanks to an extensive list of AP classes, accredited STEM programs and more than 90 student clubs and organizations.

Palo Verde’s residents have their fingers on the pulse of Silicon Valley thanks to a distinct aesthetic that screams modern California and a direct connection to the region’s most illustrious parks and schools.
