St. Petersburg suburb near beaches, shops and golf courses
East of Lake Seminole and Gulf Coast beaches, St. Petersburg’s Bardmoor community offers a laid-back suburban lifestyle with easy access to big-city amenities. With two prestigious golf clubs at its heart, Bardmoor is sought after for its proximity to schools, shopping and outdoor recreation. And St. Pete’s and Clearwater’s beaches and vibrant downtown districts are a few miles away. “It’s off the beaten path, very private with no through traffic, and very diverse,” says Jeff Kay, Treasurer and board member for Chateaux de Bardmoor Condominium Owners Association. “Bardmoor is kind of like an island because it's off the main road, and we’re nicely tucked in, but Pinellas County is super populated, so all your shops and stores are very close.” Kay is retired and has lived in the community since 2013.
Bardmoor goes beyond its quiet location and easy access to shopping and dining. “Here, you’re 5 miles from the beach, you have Intracoastal waterways and ocean views anywhere you go, so if you like sports, have a boat or like living on the water, you have that everywhere,” says Kay. “It’s also a hop, skip and a jump to the airport and Tampa. “You pretty much have the best of both worlds, so you don’t have to go very far for anything.”

Upscale golf courses and miles of beaches surround the area
The 258-acre Lake Seminole Park is directly west of the neighborhood, stretching nearly 2 miles along the lake’s eastern shore. The park has a wildlife habitat, 2 miles of trails, ballfields, a playground and a boat launch. Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club is the gem of the neighborhood. The public 19-hole course has hosted 13 Professional Golf Association tour events and offers 14 tennis courts and six pickleball courts. “It’s a nice course; they have a pool, a restaurant and a clubhouse,” Kay says. The private Bayou Club is the other and equally popular. Its membership includes an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool and a social club. Helen S. Howarth Community Park, to the east in the Pinellas Park community, has a dog park, nature paths and an observation tower overlooking Boca Ciega Bay. Astro Skate of Pinellas Park is next door, which offers an indoor roller rink and arcade games. The 354-acre Walsingham Park is 5 miles northwest and has 6 miles of hiking and biking trails surrounding a 100-acre lake. Beach lovers don’t need to go far, as St. Petersburg and Clearwater beaches are all under a 15-mile drive. Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores are closest and offer 2 miles of public beach access. Treasure Island is also a hot spot north of St. Pete Beach, popular for paddleboarding and parasailing. It has miles of beaches, a beach trail and restaurants. “Here, you have a variety of restaurants and free beaches,” says Kay. “It’s quaint, and it’s not built up.” Madeira Beach is 13 miles from Bardmoor but is also a popular hangout spot. The barrier island community, which ranked among TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Beaches in the U.S. in 2021, is best known for its sea-themed John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk, which also offers a variety of unique shops and locally owned eateries.
The Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club is one of the amenities the local residents have access to.

Golf course homes, condos and million-dollar custom estates
Niche ranked Bardmoor as the 11th-best suburb in the Tampa area to buy a house in. Property types, sizes and prices differ depending on which section homebuyers choose. “There’s Bardmoor North and Bardmoor South, and then everything in the middle,” Kay says. “Bardmoor North is more well-to-do homes up to $1.1 million. Bardmoor South is more modest, with homes up to $800,000 and in between are all condo associations.” Single-family dwellings are primarily ranch-style homes, Mediterranean-inspired houses and traditional Craftsman homes. Most homes were built in the 1970s and ‘80s, but some newer ones were built in the late ‘90s. “There’s nothing too contemporary in the neighborhood, aside from a few facelifts that homes may be getting recently,” says Peter Nemethy, a Realtor at RE/MAX Preferred who serves the Tampa area and has lived in Pinellas County since 1969. “Some of the late '90s homes have a more Mediterranean look, with barrel-tile roofs.” Prices range from around $300,000 for a 1,000-square-foot three-bedroom to around $800,000 for a four-bedroom home over 4,000 square feet. There are also some million-dollar custom homes in the gated Bayou Club Estates subdivision in the northern part of the community. “There’s a real pride of ownership,” Nemethy says. “This is a significantly higher-income housing market area with larger lots and larger homes.” This subdivision offers resort-style backyards, waterfront views, private boat docks and a walking path. Bardmoor lots range from a few thousand square feet to about a quarter of an acre, and many bigger homes sit on half-acre lots, which are all well-manicured. Residents also enjoy pools, multi-car garages and spacious driveways.
Bardmoor also offers several condo subdivisions. Cordova Greens offers one-bedroom condos starting around $168,000 to around $375,000 for a two-bedroom. Condos in Fairway Villas are priced up to $450,000 for a two-bedroom, and residents have golf course views and access to a community pool. “Fairway Villas is right on Bardmoor Golf Course,” says Kay. Chateaux de Bardmoor, Kay’s community for residents over 55, offers one- and two-bedroom condos from around $250,000 to $375,000. “Most of these units were built in the 70s and range from 900 square feet to 1,500 square feet,” he says. “We have a large swimming pool, a clubhouse, a billiards room and shuffleboard.” While prices tend to be higher in Pinella County than in surrounding areas, Kay said the demand is still very strong. “Availability isn’t that high, you'll have a spike, then units are gone,” he says. “The average place would be sold before it had an open house in two or three days.”
For multi-family living, townhomes are additional housing options in the Bardmoor neighborhood.
Some Bardmoor neighborhood estates offer their own private boat docks along the water.

Dining and entertainment in every direction
Most shopping and dining options are along Starkey Road and Park Boulevard. El Jalisco Seminole is the go-to spot for authentic Mexican fare, known for its street tacos, chimichangas and table-side guacamole. Fortunato’s Italian Pizzeria is another local favorite, offering New York-style slices, stromboli and Philly cheesesteak. Benedict’s is a popular weekend brunch restaurant, serving up everything from biscuits and gravy to corned beef hash and other comfort classics. Bardmoor Promenade, in the community’s northwestern corner, provides a variety of retailers and dining, including Publix, Ace Hardware and Wells Fargo. “There’s a little local place there called Club House, and it’s great for breakfast and lunch,” says Kay. Seminole City Center is 3 miles north, offering more big-box stores, services and a movie theater. While downtown St. Petersburg is 12 miles away, Kay says residents have easy access to a variety of entertainment. “There are so many things to do in the Clearwater-Tampa area,” he says. “You have Phillies baseball spring training at Baycare Park, Yankees spring training at Steinbrenner [Field] and The Straz Theater, where you can see off-Broadway plays.”
