Country living along the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County
In the small community of Peach Bottom, relics of a 19th-century railroad contour the Susquehanna River. A part of Lancaster County, Peach Bottom is home to less than 900 households and is primarily residential. Along with the black cherry trees that turn a vibrant yellow come fall, modest 1980s-era split-level homes and 19th-century farmhouses dot the rural landscape. For all the everyday essentials, residents head to neighboring communities like The Buck or downtown Quaryville. “There’s a very heavy Amish influence here,” says Katie Hall, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and a Lancaster County local. Peach Bottom is the type of place where cars slow down for horse-drawn buggies and residents can count on fresh produce and whoopie pies year-round – there’s usually a familiar face or two at Eldora Farm Market. Perfect for raising chickens and livestock, this Lancaster County neighborhood is an escape from city life and a present-day reminder of decades past.
Ranch-styles and historic farmhouses on multi-acre lots
The average sale price in Peach Bottom hovers around $350,000, but prospective buyers will also find options ranging from the low $100,000s to upwards of $500,000. Housing styles here range from smaller manufactured homes, like those in Jubilee Park, to two-bedroom split-levels and ranch-styles; to the occasional 19th-century farmhouse tucked away amidst fields of yellow corn.
This split-level home is the perfect solution for many of Peach Bottom's hilly streets.
