El Vista's views of restaurants, parks and the interstate
El Vista translates to “the view” in Spanish, but the view in this Peoria subdivision might look different than in other locations. The neighborhood is within walking distance of many city amenities, from the interstate along the eastern side to parks, restaurants and grocery stores. Further, this subdivision’s housing prices are lower than those of some surrounding neighborhoods, attracting those moving from Chicago to Peoria for the city feel and lower cost of living.
40s and 50s Cape Cods along narrow streets
Most of the homes in El Vista are Cape Cods built in the 40s and 50s, though homebuyers might find the occasional bungalow or ranch-style home mixed in. Grassy lawns run right to the curb, uninterrupted by sidewalks or other walkways. Some homes have paved driveways, while others park in the front yard instead. Homes here typically sell between $50,000 and $175,000, which is lower than nearby subdivisions like Forest Hills.
Homes in El Vista range in price from $50,000 to $175,000.
Many updated bungalow style homes can be found throughout El Vista.

Bradley Park stretches across 140 acres along Dry Run Creek. A Japanese bridge flanked by shrine gates goes over the creek, connecting visitors with the baseball fields, tennis courts, disc golf course and dog park.

Getting around Peoria by bus or I-74
When getting around the area, Sterling and Forrest Hill avenues link residents with nearby amenities. Buses powered by CityLink also stop along these thoroughfares for an alternative way to get around. Interstate 74, just east of El Vista, gets motorists to downtown Peoria, about 4 miles away, and the cluster of hospitals like OSF Forest Park, about 3.5 miles away. “I have a friend who moved from Chicago, and she always said, ‘I can wake up, go to work, drop my kids off at school and show up 15 minutes later to work, and in Chicago, this would’ve taken an hour or an hour and a half,’” says Realtor Rhonda Milburn with Keller Williams Premier Realty. General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport is about 7.5 miles from this community.

Arts festivals and farmers markets along the river
For over 60 years, Peoria has hosted the Peoria Art Guild Fine Art Fair every September, featuring local artists in the booths along the riverfront in downtown Peoria. “It’s in the top 100 art fairs in the country,” Milburn says. “It’s great for adults and kids. They serve alcohol and food, so it’s not all kid centered.” The Peoria Area Farmers Market runs from May to September along the riverfront, featuring local produce, baked foods and fresh flowers. There’s also live music every week.
