About Perry Hall, MD

About Perry Hall, MD

Quiet community appeals to commuters

A tight-knit community on the outskirts of Baltimore, Perry Hall is known for having the oldest civic association in northeast Baltimore County, dating back to 1945. Primarily filled with suburbs, locals living in Perry Hall are drawn to the distance from the city lights while still having a convenient commute. “I bought my first house in Perry Hall,” says Lee Tessier of the Lee Tessier Team of EXP Realty. “People like the area because it’s not too far from Towson, I-95, Route 1. It’s convenient and close to a lot of Baltimore County employers, like Black & Decker, McCormick and MedStar.”

Mix of established homes and new construction

Due to the number of homes in the area, styles run the gamut. Buyers will find everything from two-bedroom townhouses priced in the mid $200,000s to bungalows selling for $350,000. There is also a mix of established colonials, split levels and ranch homes with spacious yards and two-car garages along Perry Hall’s backroads. Sidewalks are also common along these residential streets, allowing locals to stretch their legs. The highest price points in the area fall between $750,000 and $900,000 for new construction with four- to five bedrooms.

Big box grocers and casual eateries along Belair Road

Shopping and dining hubs cluster along U.S. Route 1, known locally as Belair Road. Perry Hall Marketplace houses a Safeway for grocery essentials, ATMs, medical offices and a Walgreens. Further south, there are several other small shopping complexes where locals can pick up groceries at Weis Markets or Giant Food. For more extensive shopping options, people head to White Marsh Mall to browse the aisles at stores like H&M, Macy’s and Boscov’s. Next door is one of two IKEA stores in Maryland. Locals have abundant options when it comes to casual eateries. “Liberatore’s, Looney’s and Desantis Pizza Grill & Bar are all big draws in the area,” says Laura Snyder, a Realtor with American Premier Realty who has sold nearly 30 homes in Perry Hall. People can pick up a pie at Desantis, catch a game at Looney’s or meet friends over a plate of pasta at Liberatore’s. Other popular spots include Taste of Taj, which serves authentic Indian dishes. Locals also head to Della Rose’s Perry Hall Pub for a pint and classic American cuisine.

Volunteer-built playground and miles of wooded trails

Recreational hotspots include “Honeygo Run Regional Park and Angel Park,” according to Snyder. “Angel Park is the newer one in the area and features a library.” The park’s playground on a rubberized surface was built from the ground up by nearly 4,000 volunteers in the area. It’s the largest all-inclusive playground in Baltimore County, designed to accommodate children living with disabilities. Honeygo Run Park is anchored by a 13,000-square-foot indoor recreation center where locals can take fitness classes or join a recreational league team. With multiple wooded trails, spanning a quarter mile to nearly 1.5 miles, the expansive green space is also a favorite among bikers and hikers. The park also features a playground, roller hockey and pickleball courts and a fenced-in dog park.

Locals can learn how to make apple butter or participate in some friendly competition during pie-eating contests at the Apple Festival at Chapel Hills Farm. Convenient commutes to Baltimore

With ample local amenities, a suburban ambiance and plenty of things to do, Perry Hall provides the convenience of city living without all the fuss. “It really appeals to people who want to be out of the city but is still a great spot for commuters,” Snyder says. Nearby Interstates 95 and 895 connect locals to downtown Baltimore, 18 miles away, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, which sits 24.5 miles south. Though primarily a car-dependent community, Maryland Transit Administration bus stops are dotted along Chapel and Belair roads.
