An accessible neighborhood just 7 miles from Center City
Farmland is a thing of the past in the dense, urban neighborhood of Juniata Park. Developed over the last century, the community is now a concrete jungle just 7 miles from Philadelphia’s Center City. Rowhomes line gridded, residential streets set with corner stores, wide sidewalks and ample street parking. Locals dwell in close proximity to Kensington Avenue’s subway stations and the city’s many SEPTA bus stops, making for quick commutes throughout the area. Not far from the essentials with the added bonus of affordable youth programming, Juniata Park is, at its heart, accessible.
SEPTA bus stops are located throughout Juniata Park.
Juniata Park is made up of mostly rownhomes just northeast of Center City.

Midcentury rowhomes in Juniata Park
The rowhomes in Juniata Park were largely constructed in the midcentury, many flaunting small, front patios where residents can store bikes or set up furniture. Ranging in price from $100,000 to $400,000, most properties hover somewhere in the middle, around $200,000. While street parking is the norm, some homes come with back alleyways with attached garages. Others have cemented backyard space for storage and potted plants. “I remember the area was once referred to as ‘the garden spot’ in the 60s,” says real estate agent Ray Hogeland of Georgette M. Innes Inc. “I assume it’s because people would grow gardens on their front lawn.” Today, front lawns aren’t common. But plenty of sidewalk space allows locals to comfortably walk their dogs or stroll with friends.
Rowhomes in Juniata Park come in many varieties with interesting entrances.

The elevated commuter rail line at Erie-Torresdale Station takes riders to Center City in about 20 minutes—a 5-mile stretch on the train. The closest emergency room is at Temple University Hospital, located about 3 miles west off of Route 611.

The largest school district in the state
Students are zoned for The School District of Philadelphia, the largest in the state. Most will attend Juniata Park Academy, enrolling kindergarten through eighth grade with a C-minus on Niche. Families should be aware of the school’s uniform policy, along with outside resources supported by the institution, including after-school programs. Other students may be zoned for Francis Hopkinson School, built in 1926 and added to the National Register of Historic Places. Simply referred to as Hopkinson Elementary, the school enrolls K-8 students with a C-minus on Niche. With the same score, Frankford High School is known for its highly-ranked culinary arts and aviation programs.

Juniata Park Academy has a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1.

Juniata Park’s carryout institutions
The overwhelming majority of nearby restaurants are best for carryout, including Pete’s Clown House and Bentoulis Pizza. The former is a Juniata Park staple, famous for its savory breakfast and brunch menu. It’s fixed in a rowhome along with Bentoulis, popular for their classic Philly cheesesteaks and, of course, pizza. As for the essentials, residents can head to Aramingo Crossings for Walmart Supercenter, Lowe’s, Lidl and Home Depot. Discount stores are offered throughout the area, too, like Aldi, Save A Lot and Dollar General. Many residences are just steps away from convenience stores and corner markets, preferable for those looking to walk instead of drive.
Petes Clown House is Juniata Parks favorite breakfast spot.

Community recreation and affordable youth sports
“Juniata Park itself is a hub of activity,” says Hogeland. “You’ll always see kids playing there.” The park’s playground and sprayground are ideal for warm, summer afternoons. But perhaps the biggest draw is its proximity to Tacony Creek Park, a 300-acre natural area with trails cutting through the native wildlife. Hikers can even find connection points to the Delaware River Trail and Frankford Creek Greenway. Piccoli Playground has eclectic equipment for children alongside ball fields and a community pool. Local golfers can check out Juanita Golf Club, while Lighthouse Sports & Entertainment Complex provides youth sports programs for every season at an affordable rate.
Young, Juniata Park residents gather at Piccoli Park for a friendly game of basketball.

Living in the Juniata section of Philadelphia has been a good experience for me. I love that it's a diverse neighborhood with many cultures to learn from. There are many shops that is accessible to public transportation which makes it very convenient to travel. The one thing I would like to see more of is community gatherings to come up with ways to keep improving our neighborhoods.

We do not have much problems over here, other than the usual domestic disputes.

There needs to be a closer gym, if there was one, I would be in there every day.
