For some homebuyers, finding a place to live is primarily about the houses, but in Overbrook, the community shines. Just 7 miles from Center City, this tight-knit neighborhood is known for its namesake high school, whose notable alumni include Will Smith. Overbrook encompasses several established neighborhoods, including Greenhill Farms, Overbrook, Overbrook Farms, and Overbrook Park. Traditional Philadelphia-style row houses coexist with 20th-century homes in this primarily residential historic enclave. Generations have grown up in Overbrook, witnessing its transition through various phases and actively participating in its revitalization through neighborhood cleanups and community events.
Admire the murals at Rose Playground
This close-knit community is home to several organizations, such as the Overbrook Park Civic Association, which comprises neighbors who contribute to beautifying Overbrook and play a pivotal role in revitalizing Rose Playground on North 75th Street. Overbrook Park Community Day, Sharon Summer Camp, a Summer Jazz Concert Series and fitness groups like We Walk PHL, a free walking group that meets in city parks throughout the week, are celebrated here. The Overbrook Environmental Education Center, established over 20 years ago by a local husband and wife duo seeking to bring positive change to their community, is engaged in a project to transform vacant lots into parks tailored to specific needs, thereby creating a disconnected park system. Morris Park offers meandering trails under a canopy of trees alongside a creek, while Overbrook is situated 2 miles from Cobbs Creek Park, where Bocce is a favored sport.
Grab dinner at Tasties Soul Food
Options for dining include pizza spots, Chinese restaurants, and places serving classic Philly cheese steaks. Jamaican cuisine is available at Erkie's Restaurant or Blue Lagoon, Bleu Brook offers fresh seafood, and Tasties Soul Food Restaurant is a chef-owned eatery on 52nd Street. For everyday essentials, Overbrook Plaza and City Avenue Shopping Center are conveniently located within the neighborhood, along with Aldi across the Street, making grocery shopping convenient. Suburban Square is a major shopping mall situated 3 miles north.
Various 20th century homes
Sparsely tree-shaded sidewalks lead to the front porches of historic homes in Overbrook, while narrow streets are lined with parked cars. Back alleyways are common in Philly's residential streets, featuring driveways, raised back patios and barbed wire-fenced-in gardens. Overbrook anchors one end of the Main Line, an old commuter railroad corridor that gave rise to distinguished suburban communities in the early 20th century. Houses in Overbrook were built between the 1920s and the 1960s, unfolding on the city's western boundary, featuring dense residential streets with attached row houses and duplexes. Overbrook Farms has a distinct ambiance, with detached homes designed a century ago in Victorian, Tudor and Colonial styles. Home prices range from $180,000 for houses needing some care to $340,000 for fully renovated properties. “The housing in Overbrook is very good and attracts a lot of people who work for the city as police officers, firefighters, teachers and attorneys,” says Michael Cohen, a Philadelphia native and real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty. “It’s an attractive area with tree-lined streets. It sells very well."

When I first moved in this neighborhood. It was only a few children on my block, very quiet and serene. Now it lots of children and older children. The neighborhood is okay but crime is minimal compared to other areas of the city. This neighborhood has lots of opportunities for business owners to enhance the community.
