Historic Pittsburgh homes atop lush hills
From the Fineview neighborhood, residents can take a gander at the Pittsburgh skyline. “This is a Northside neighborhood, and there are some great views up there,” says Sara Leitera, a local Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway. “The overlook is popular in a hidden gem kind of way.” Residents of Fineview practically have pirate overlooks in their backyard. The neighborhood is also within walking distance of Allegheny Center and East Allegheny, two more urban communities with eclectic local businesses, convenient stores and green spaces. From the attractive and comparably affordable homes to the convenient location, Fineview checks plenty of boxes homebuyers look for with the added bonus of lush, mature flora.

Victorian detailing and charm
Narrow residential roads climb and slope down rolling hills lined by historic houses. The median lot size is less than a tenth of an acre, which affords folks enough space to liven their properties with trimmed bushes and flower beds. Victorian Revivals built in the late 1800s or early 1900s are common in this community, with decorative woodwork trim, steep gabled roofs and wide porches for hosting an al fresco meal on a warm day. Early-century American Foursquares are another historic style along these streets, as are midcentury raised ranches and bungalows. Townhouses also dapple the neighborhood’s map. An older home in need of repairs and some TLC costs between $16,000 and the high $100,000s, while renovated historic homes with three or four bedrooms range from $400,000 to just under $700,000. “For Pittsburgh, they’re really affordable,” Leitera says. “And many of these properties have some great vistas from the front or back porch.”

Fineview Field and Fineview Park
There are a few spots around Fineview to enjoy a breath of fresh air or let kids burn off energy. Fineview Field is a simple ballfield great for games of catch. This field is right by the Fineview Overlook, where folks can gaze at the city from the top of a high hill, surrounded by mature oak and maple trees. Fineview Park is up the road, with a half-basketball court that’s just right for games of H-O-R-S-E. Other amenities here include a tennis court and playground.

Going down Federal Street
“There are some good restaurants near Fineview since it’s right above East Allegheny and Allegheny Center,” Leitera says. Fineview residents can head down Federal Street and be in a more urban setting in moments, close to bars, churches, markets and eateries. Day-to-day shopping might take folks to Giant Eagle Supermarket. For dinner or lunch, however, there are several options. Hook Fish & Chicken’s storefront is hard to miss with all its neon signs. For fans of old-school Italian, Legends Eatery can serve greens and beans as an appetizer, then alfredo for the main course on red gingham tablecloths. Authentic Hungarian cuisine, like chicken paprikash and lango, awaits at Huszar.
You can go to Mayfly Market & Deli for some quick food items.

PRT bus stops and Interstate 95
Fineview is only a 4-mile drive to downtown Pittsburgh. Interstate 95 runs along the neighborhood’s west side, making for simple highway trips into or out of the city. Carless commutes aren’t too complicated either, thanks to the PRT bus stops around the neighborhood.
The best way to travel in and out of Fineview is by the PRT bus.
