Townhouse community with views of Pittsburgh
During a diplomatic trip to visit the French at Fort Le Boeuf in 1753, George Washington capsized and had to spend the night on Herr’s Island, 3 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh. Previously an industrial island housing a soap-making facility, a meat-packing plant and a garbage-burning location, the area is now a community of townhouses with a business park and open green spaces. “There’s a nice walking and biking path,” says Nathaniel Nieland, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “People are walking, exercising and being with their families. There’s also fantastic views of the city and very nice townhouses there.” Herr’s Island, also known as Washington's Landing, was known for its smell but is now known for being a prominent boating community and an accessible location for those who wish to have proximity to downtown without living downtown. “People there are removed from walking traffic or bus traffic or any traffic really,” says Bryan Reilly, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty. “You’re on your own little island.”
On Herrs Island you can see beautiful views of Downtown Pittsburgh from the scenic overlook.

Boating on the Allegheny River
Washington’s Landing Marina takes pride in being the only full-service dry stack valet in Pittsburgh. Boats are kept out of the water in a warehouse, and seasonal services are offered, from draining an engine block in the winter to changing the oil in summer, so members’ boats are ready for outings on the Allegheny River. Part of the Three Rivers Rowing Association, Lambert Boathouse has docks for rowing and paddling and provides gear to its members. Land dwellers may relax at Herr’s Island Lawn is an open green space behind a row of townhouses, or walk around the island using the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Herr’s Island North Park includes tennis courts and North Park Lookout Point offers views of the river. Scenic Overlook on the opposite side of the island is a great place to view the lights of Pittsburgh at night.
At Washington's Landing Marina, you can dock your boat and enjoy Herrs Island.

Some of the homes have views of the river. Homes with less than 2,000 square feet range from $600,000 to $700,000 and those larger than 2,000 square feet range from $750,000 to $850,000.
