American foursquares and frame houses dominate Marshall-Shadeland
Popular architectural styles include American Foursquares with dormers and covered front porches, two-story frame houses with sharply peaked roofs, quaint cottages with brick facades and asymmetrical entryways, and Dutch Colonial Revivals with gambrel roofs. Most homes here were built between the late-1800s and mid-1900s, meaning they are in various conditions. "California-Kirkbride and Marshall-Shadeland are made up of a lot of investors that rent to people," says Anthony Dasta, a Senior Advisor with Re/Max Select Realty's The Anthony Dasta Group. Fixer-uppers can start for as little as $14,000, while well-maintained or fully renovated homes go for between $100,000 and $250,000. Occasionally, a townhouse will also appear on the market, selling for between $125,000 and $235,000.
