Friendly neighbors in a welcoming borough

Since the turn of the 20th century, the Rosslyn Farms community has grown into a welcoming suburban enclave with forested charm and friendly faces. “You can just knock on the neighbor’s door and ask for a couple eggs or a garden tool, everyone is just so close and willing to help out,” says Ashley Blair-Lightholder, a local Realtor with Howard Hanna who has lived in the area for more than eight years and sold numerous homes in the community. “It’s a very walkable and active neighborhood. If people aren’t walking, they’re riding their bikes or pushing a stroller,” she says. Founded in 1901, Rosslyn Farms has seen its fair share of generational growth while also welcoming new members to the community. “It’s the perfect blend. There are a lot of new families that have moved in, and then you have people that grew up here, left, and came back, and then they raised their kids here,” Blair-Lightholder says. With a central community center, engaging events and easy access to downtown Pittsburgh less than 10 miles away, Rosslyn Farms offers convenience while retaining a cozy historical vibe.

Historical homes with storybook charm

Rosslyn Farms has a bit of a storybook quality to it, with historical homes ranging from traditional Tudor Revival-style to country cottages to spacious colonials. “It’s known for just the uniqueness and character of the homes,” Blair-Lightholder says, noting that the value of the neighborhood is higher than the median for the surrounding area due to its coveted nature. Manicured lawns and gardens are the norm here, and Blair-Lightholder says the Garden Club is always willing to lend a hand to spruce up a neighbor’s yard. Prices can range from under $400,000 for a home that needs a little TLC to more than $600,000 for a stately Tudor-style estate.

Shaded playdates at Parrish Park

Named after the borough’s original developer, Parrish Park serves as the community’s main recreational space, shaded by tall pines and mature maple trees. The woodsy park includes a small playground, a generous number of picnic tables and plenty of open space for summer events. Down the hill, the Rosslyn Farms swimming pool helps locals stay cool in warm weather. In the center of the borough, the Rosslyn Farms Community Center offers additional recreation opportunities with a basketball court and an indoor gym. Walkers enjoy exploring the secluded path along the shores of nearby Chartiers Creek, while golfers can opt for a membership at Chartiers Country Club.
