Suburban feel meets downtown entertainment

Anchored by Downtown Plano, Armstrong Park offers a vibrant mix of quiet suburban streets and downtown dining options. This East Plano neighborhood has residential areas to the northeast, industrial properties to the south and Downtown Plano’s commercial hub to the west. With such an eclectic blend all in one neighborhood, Armstrong Park offers something for every lifestyle.

Local eateries in the heart of Plano

Downtown Plano offers an abundance of entertainment, shopping and dining experiences. Locals stroll along the red brick road and browse the locally owned shops and restaurants. Known for its innovative pies, Urban Crust is a local favorite for its wood-fired pizzas and city views from the rooftop patio. A few doors down, Lockhart Smokehouse offers something a little more Texan. This counter-serve barbecue joint has brought the Barbecue Capital of Texas to DFW. The restaurant smokes all its meats over Texas post oak, and this is the only restaurant in the area where that serves Kreuz Market Sausage. Additionally, Armstrong Park’s central location gives residents access to many chain restaurants and big box stores, including grocery stores like Tom Thumb and Aldi.

Home styles for urban and suburban living

Brick ranch-style houses dominate the residential areas in the northeast. Most homes have rear garages situated on alleys behind the homes. Large, mature trees extend their limbs over the quiet streets, offering shade throughout the neighborhood. The area right around downtown features a wider variety of architectural styles, such as Craftsman and Victorian, many with large wooden porches and ornate railings. For homebuyers looking for a little less space, there are several condo complexes as well. These units come with brand-new, updated appliances, community swimming pools and convenient access to all the shopping and dining the neighborhood offers. Though the median real estate price hovers around $365,000, most homes list between $200,000 and $600,000. Armstrong Park receives a crime score of 6 out of 10, according to the CAP Index. This score is slightly higher than the US national average of 4.

Community performances in Plano

In downtown Plano, residents take in an outdoor show at the McCall Plaza. This downtown venue hosts concerts and other performances for the community throughout the year. Next to Haggard Park, the Courtyard Theater and Cox Playhouse put on live performances in a former WPA gymnasium.

History meets recreation at Haggard Park

West of Downtown, Haggard Park is a lively city park with a playground and a small pond – and it’s the home of the Interurban Railway Museum. This free museum showcases the history of the Texas Electric Railway along with exhibits on electricity, science and the history of Plano. Kids will love exploring the historic train car stationed outside the museum. Nearby, the open green spaces at Willow Creek Park offer a place for residents to explore. The park’s recent renovations included ADA-accessible improvements and a new basketball court. The sand volleyball court and Willow Creek Trail are also popular with locals. On the other side of Sam Johnson Highway, Harrington Park is the starting point of the Chisholm Trail, a 5-mile walking and jogging trail that takes residents north on a green belt throughout the city.
