Beach life in a growing city on the Intracoastal Highway

Parked south of the city center in Pompano Beach and north of Fort Lauderdale, the centrally located Pompano and Santa Barbara Shores has become a prime spot to discover the area’s growth. "This place is just going bananas," says David Collins, Realtor with Charles Rutenberg Realty of Fort Lauderdale. Collins has lived in the Pompano and Santa Barbara Shores area for more than 11 years. "There's new construction everywhere. I just bought a townhouse here two or three years ago, and some guy tried to buy it off me for $80,000 more a week later! I told him it was not for sale, and he said, 'Good choice. Pompano Beach is taking off,'" Collins says. With connections to the Intracoastal Waterway running throughout, the area’s also got plenty to offer for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Seafaring locals can take a vessel from home to the Atlantic Ocean itself without having to worry about fixed bridges.

A stone’s throw from the shore

Pompano and Santa Barbara Shores’ key location between central Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale gives residents the option to choose their preferred experience on the coast. Residents looking for a place to fish or relax under the sun can find it at the Fisher Family Pier, 3 miles north of the neighborhood. To the south, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach lets residents enjoy the beach with regular events on the seaside.

Waterfront mid-century homes in Pompano Beach

Pompano and Santa Barbara Shores residents live in a mix of condos, waterfront ranch homes and custom-built houses from the 1950s onward. The backyards of most homes open up to finger canals connected to the Intracoastal Waterway. Amenities of choice nearby include in-ground pools, patios and boat docks. Prices generally range from about $150,000 for one-bedroom condo units to $2.7 million for the most lavish single-family properties. "It's a beautiful neighborhood, I mean really pretty, It's surrounded by water, and you can take the Intracoastal all the way to the blue water. Go toward Lighthouse Point, and you'll be at the ocean in about thirty minutes," Collins says.

Connected to Pompano Beach’s Old Town Arts District

Close to the east side of the neighborhood on Federal Highway, Brendan’s Sports Pub offers billiards, fantasy poker, watch parties and live music. Pompano and Santa Barbara Shores residents are also 3 miles away from Downtown Pompano Beach, making it easy to reach the goings-on of the city’s Old Town arts programs. Locals can stop by the Bailey Contemporary Arts Center for block parties on first Fridays, see international music acts at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater or enjoy events at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center.

Local eats and national choices

Local dining options include Brewfish Bar & Grill for seafood and American fare by the waterfront, RGS Steakhouse for Brazilian-style rodizio dining, and Old World Polish Deli for European lunch foods and bakery items. Casual dining chains nearby include Smokey Bones, Carrabba’s, Dunkin’ and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Wings. Residents can take care of grocery shopping at Publix or Walmart Neighborhood Market locations along Federal Highway. The neighborhood also features other big box retailers like Marshalls, Ross and Bealls.
