Located slightly inland from other Port Orange communities near Rose Bay and the Halifax River, Hamlet still offers easy access to all the water-related activities and beaches popular in the region, like Daytona Beach, which is less than 10 miles away. The small residential neighborhood extends west from Spruce Creek Road, which locals use to reach a large community park to the south and Highway 54 to the north. Leisure time in Hamlet can be spent seafaring from the inland waterways or the Atlantic shores of Daytona Beach. “Some people go to Daytona Beach, but others like the quiet of Wilbur Beach, which is here in Port Orange," says Lancelot Lenard, a broker associate with Florida Homes Realty & Mortgage and longtime resident of Port Orange. "A little further south, we have Ponce Inlet, which has a lighthouse, a boat launch and a Marine Science Center.” Even resident pups have a place to play at Seemor Memorial Dog Park, part of the Spruce Creek Recreational Center. The park has separate fenced areas for larger and smaller dogs, allowing for off-leash play while owners relax on shaded benches. Many residents also walk their dogs along the winding trail to a well-equipped sports complex. Local youth athletes practice and compete on the baseball fields, and neighbors meet for matches on Spruce Creek Park's six tennis courts. Public schools serving Hamlet are within the Volusia County Schools District, which earns a B grade from Niche. "Many people move to Hamlet because of the school system," Forrester says. Spruce Creek Elementary has won the Five Star Award annually since the late 1990s, highlighting the school's commitment to volunteer work. Rated B-plus, the elementary school offers opportunities for students to participate in the school's news broadcast, safety patrol and STEM-centered organizations. Creekside Middle School also has a B-plus rating and provides many extracurricular activities, including robotics, fishing and golf. Older students attend Spruce Creek High School, receiving a solid A from Niche. Spruce Creek is known for its award-winning theater program and championship sports teams in football, weightlifting and baseball.

Restaurants, stores and businesses line a 7-mile stretch of Dunlawton Avenue from the western part of the city to the Daytona Beach shorefront. A few miles west, The Pavilion at Port Orange and Westport Plaza have Publix, numerous big-box stores, a Hollywood Theater and various restaurants. Malibu Beach Grill's outdoor patio provides views of breezy palm trees where locals sip cocktails and eat seafood. The Pavilion Farmer's Market sets up booths on Saturdays, where locals can choose from fresh oranges, greens and artisan goods. Nearby are Walmart, Target, Lowe's and HomeGoods. Neighbors Ice Cream Parlor on Spruce Creek Road blends with the surrounding houses, offering homemade sweet treats since 2008.
