Affordable and accessible in the heart of the Treasure Coast
Becker Ridge sits along the southern edge of Port St. Lucie and is a modest suburban pocket comprised almost exclusively of single-family houses, most in the $400,000s range. This is a far cry from the bustling cities of West Palm Beach and Miami, where single-family homes are rare and expensive. This is why real estate agent Kate Ward says many transplants from Miami and West Palm Beach are choosing to relocate to Becker Ridge. “You get so much bang for your buck in Port St. Lucie, but you can still commute down there if you need to,” she says. Ward, who has been a St. Lucie County resident since 1986, says Becker Ridge’s abundance of empty lots lures a lot of newcomers from all over because it makes it easy to build new, custom homes. Plus, the neighborhood’s proximity to Tradition, a buzzy new master-planned community a few miles west, is another big draw. "You're about seven minutes away, so you get all the shopping and events, but you don’t have to pay the extra taxes you’d have to pay if you lived in Tradition,” she says.
Ranch-style houses, bungalows and new builds available
Most homes are ranch-style, built in the 1980s and 1990s. There are also some small bungalows and larger custom contemporary homes built in the 2000s. They sit on grassy lawns adorned with small trees, shrubs and flowers. Also notable is the large number of empty lots in the neighborhood, many sitting between homes, giving this suburban neighborhood a bit of a rural feel. Sidewalks are scarce, but the streets are quiet and easily walkable. Prices range from $290,000 for three bedrooms and two bathrooms to $580,000 for a four-bedroom, three-bathroom, new build with over 2000 square feet. Regarding crime, the neighborhood scores 3 out of 10 on the CAP Index, one point lower than the national average.
