Private living on the country club grounds

Harbour Ridge Country & Yacht Club is not just a place to golf and boat along the Treasure Coast. For many club members, it is also home. In addition to the club’s championship golf courses, private boat slips, members-only restaurants and dozens of social clubs, the on-site gated community has a variety of housing options that range from small condos to sprawling estates. The club is in the city of Port St. Lucie, which is popular for its local park system and prime location along the St. Lucie River, so members who head off park grounds will still have plenty to enjoy in this coastal town. “It’s a whole different world here. You wake up every day to sunshine,” says Suzanne Dickinson, a real estate agent with REMAX Gold who has been selling homes in the Port St. Lucie area for over a decade. “It’s a dream, you just hop in your car and head down to the beach.”

Cozy condos or riverfront estates

The gated communities of Harbor Ridge let members choose from a variety of properties. The club has several condo complexes and villas as well as a handful of custom homes and exclusive estate properties. Stand-alone homes often have Spanish Revival details like tile roofs and frequently come with resort-style pools, large stone patios, and riverfront access with private docks. The surrounding area is filled with manicured lawns, palm trees, and gardens, and all club amenities are within walking distance of residential areas. Homes start at around $700,000 and can reach up to $2 million, while condos offer a more accessible option between $200,000 and $300,000. Anyone living on club grounds must pay a $124,000 joining fee in addition to a monthly HOA fee and club dues.

Golf courses, marinas and nature preserves

In addition to on-site housing, Harbour Ridge also has two golf courses, a private marina along the St. Lucie River and a puppy park that members can use any time. There are also several local nature preserves just north of the Harbour Ridge area. At Spruce Bluff Preserve, visitors can hike or canoe through 97 acres surrounding a pioneer settlement from the 19th century, while North Fork St. Lucie River Aquatic Preserve offers several public boat ramps. Both preserves are open to the public at no cost. “So many things here are free. The beaches are free, the launch ramps for your boat are free, and that was not at all the case everywhere,” Dickinson says.

Shop and dine along the St. Lucie River

Harbour Ridge has three on-site dining options. Members can have a slice of oven-baked pizza at the Grille Room, a formal dinner at the Riverview Dining Room or Eagle’s Nest Lounge or an evening nightcap on the Dockside Pavilion. Just outside of the club grounds on Southeast Becker Road, the Shoppes at Veranda Falls offers shopping and dining along the riverfront. Locals can pick up weekly groceries at Publix or sit down for a meal at one of the complex’s two restaurants. Bonefish Macs is a laid-back sports bar specializing in local seafood, while Oak & Ember is an upscale steak house.

Personal study at the county’s top schools

Families living in the Harbour Ridge community can send their children to St. Lucie Public Schools. The closest elementary school is Morningside Elementary School, which Niche gives a B-plus and the title of the third-best elementary school in St. Lucie County. Southport Middle School is also close to the community and scores a B-minus from Niche. Treasure Coast High School is split into several Academies, which are small learning communities that allow students to closely study subjects ranging from performing arts to biotechnology. The school has a B score on Niche and is also named the fourth-best high school in the county. For students who want to get a degree close to home, Indian River State College is in neighboring Fort Pierce and offers hundreds of associate and bachelor’s degrees.

Fast access to I-95 and nearby metros

Once Harbour Ridge members leave club grounds, they are directly next to Florida Turnpike, a toll road that feeds into Interstate 95. The interstate is the fastest way to get to neighboring cities, whether it is West Palm Beach just 44 miles away, or urban hubs like Miami and Orlando, which are 115 and 125 miles away, respectively.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
