Cedar Mill’s convenient location attracts thousands of Oregonians to the neighborhood, with its proximity to the corporate headquarters of Nike and Intel, which named its final version of the Pentium 4 processor after the community. The growth that Cedar Mill has experienced within the last 20 years is significant—the population of the Portland suburb increased by 40% since the turn of the century. With the population boom came a new elementary school and middle school, as well as plenty of new businesses. “They have been working hard on developing the area,” says Victoria Marchese, a senior broker with Eleete Real Estate and a Cedar Mill Business Association sponsor. “They are adding quite a few new places, like taphouses and coffee shops—all of the things that people really like.”
Insomnia Coffee and Wildwood Taphouse open
As the population of Cedar Mill grows, so does the number of things to do. The neighborhood recently welcomed the arrival of Insomnia Coffee Co, a popular coffee shop throughout the Portland area. Residents can head to the café for their regular hot or iced order and a bagel before heading across the street to the Cedar Mill Library, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the state. Wildwood Taphouse, another local business with a location in Cedar Mill, makes for a great evening hang-out. Patrons enjoy one of 20 regularly rotating tapped beers in the cheerful space, which features a playful mural of a bear strumming a banjo. For groceries, residents head to Market of Choice or the Safeway in the Sunset Mall shopping center. For more local produce, they shop at the Cedar Mill Farmers Market in the Safeway parking lot every Saturday from May through October. “It’s packed every weekend,” Marchese says. “They have the fresh flowers, the fruits and veggies, sometimes there are people playing music there.”

Cedar Mill Falls and the Mossuments
The neighborhood enjoys access to the extensive Tualatin Parks and Recreation District, including the Jordan Woods Natural Area. Granite sculptures called “Mossuments,” inscribed with taxonomic language for various species of moss, gradually become covered with a soft, velvety green layer throughout the woods’ 18 acres. The Jackie Husen Park at the mouth of the forest features a playground and a swing set. Another popular hiking destination is Cedar Mill Falls, accessible via the Cedar Mill Creek Greenway. The Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible trail leads to a boardwalk with a view of the area’s only waterfall. However, Marchese’s favorite way to view the rushing waterfalls is via the shorter Timberland Falls Trail.
The Sunset Athletic Club has been a community staple since the ‘70s, with more recent additions to accommodate Cedar Mill’s growing population. The recreation center enjoys local support, despite the arrival of competitors, offering a rock wall, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as indoor and outdoor tennis courts in return.

There is very little crime in the area. The police are around frequently, largely to monitor speeding, and their stations are located nearby. It is a very safe area.

Cedar Mill is perfect for families; it has plenty of parks, grocery stores, and schools nearby with little crime. If you're looking to party, however, I'd recommend closer downtown, as there aren't really clubs or bars in the area.

I generally don't use any stores other than the grocery store nearby and those are great. I do wish there was an affordable gym nearby if possible.
