Residential comfort with nearby activities

The Rose City Park neighborhood has at least a couple of notable distinctions. It bears Portland’s well-known nickname. And it was formally established in 1907, the first year of the city’s annual Rose Festival. Located about 5 miles east of the downtown, the neighborhood is a primarily residential community that enjoys proximity to other pockets of Portland with significant clusters of dining and shopping destinations. Rose City Park borders Hollywood, which residents can easily end up in by simply traveling west on Sandy Boulevard. Rose City Park’s western neighbor boasts a district featuring chain grocers like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, as well as a historic movie house known for its eclectic lineup of showings. “You’re immediately adjacent to the Hollywood district, which has lots of restaurants,” says Alex Roy, a Realtor with John L. Scott Real Estate, who lives in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood just south of Rose City Park. “Almost any direction you go, you got quick access to commercial areas, restaurants and that kind of stuff.” Residents also enjoy the neighborhood due to some of its outdoor spaces. Many often flock to the perimeter of the Rose City Golf Course, which has a park in its southwestern corner that’s popular with dog owners and youth athletes. “Around the golf course that is right there is a wonderful walking area,” Roy says. “In the southwest corner, there are a couple baseball diamonds, a playground and open field that’s a favorite for people to bring their dogs to.”

Stop by the Rose City Food Park, then continue on to Hollywood

A cluster shops and eating spots can be found right along Sandy Boulevard. Among them is the Rose City Food Park, one of a number of food cart pods located around Portland. Visitors can pick from well over a dozen food trucks, as well as enjoy the beer garden in the dog friendly pod. Picnic tables and wooden lawn chairs are placed across the pod. Other nearby options include Du’s Grill, which boasts having the “Best Korean Teriyaki in the Known Universe.” Continuing farther east along Sandy and into the Roseway area, those looking for groceries can stop by the Safeway. Going west, Sandy leads to another dense dining and entertainment destination in neighboring Hollywood. There’s a Trader Joe’s and Hollywood Farmers Market for fresh produce. There’s also the historic Hollywood Theatre, a renovated Prohibition-era movie house known for screening indie films and hosting live shows. The venue, which brought back 70 millimeter projection in 2015, also screens classic flicks. A screening of the silent science fiction film Metropolis involved an organist playing the score on the theater’s Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ, giving viewers the authentic and classic movie-going experience.

Rounds at the Rose City Golf Course and youth indoor soccer

A small portion of the 18-hole Rose City Golf Course extends into the eastern end of the neighborhood. This public course’s tree-lined fairways covers more than 140 acres and its perimeter is a popular spot for strollers. Rose City Park features some green space that dog owners use to let their pups roam and get some exercise. There are also ongoing plans to provide a new trail around the course’s perimeter. Children can get on the playground set under the shade of the tall trees at Normandale Park. The space located along Northeast Halsey Street features a fenced dog park, which is not widely common across the city. The dog park is further split into sections for small and large-sized dogs. Located right along the neighborhood’s southern bounds is Rose City Futsal EAST, one of the operation’s two Portland facilities. Futsal is soccer usually played indoors and on a hardwood floor. With multiple state-of-the-art courts, Rose City Futsal’s activities include youth leagues and camps for young and aspiring players. The facilities come complete with Clive’s Public House on the second floor, where fans and family can watch the action while enjoying some beers.

I love the neighborhood. It's close to the max and a few major bus lines. There is a large park that has a playground, ball fields, and a dog park. Everyone I've met is nice and friendly. The only thing I would change is the large and ugly storage unit facility they are building.
