Home to the “Strong People” and natural recreation
Port Gamble Tribal Community sits on the shore of Port Gamble, an inlet fed by the Hood Canal. Here, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe—or the “Strong People”—became well-known for hunting and fishing. The landscape continues to lend itself to outdoor recreation, from the shore to nearby forested trails.
Point Julia’s beachfront and Hansville Greenway’s forested trails
Point Julia’s beach peers over the water of Port Gamble, where boats set out for fishing expeditions. A boat launch was added to the shoreline in 2022, replacing a well-loved dock that was deteriorating after being used for over 50 years for fishing and as a place to learn to swim. Port Gamble Skatepark sits within the Port Gamble Reservation and has a smooth concrete bowl with rails. The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe purchased the Heronswood Garden in 2012. In addition to serving as an event space for Halloween light tours and walking wine events, the garden’s 15 acres are used to educate the community about how plants and people are connected.
The Hansville Greenway spans almost 400 acres, with Buck Lake at its center and over 7 miles of forested trails woven around it. “Since we are away from the population centers in the county, you never see too many people up here on the trails,” says Art Ellison, media relations for the Hansville Greenway Association. “The winters can be really wet, but for those not minding the weather, the solitude of the forest can be quite soothing to the soul. Sure, it can get hot in the summer, but all you have to do is get away from your house and step into the woods for a much cooler environment.”
Fishing boats and other water activities are commonly found throughout the Port Gamble waters.

Kingston’s downtown dining, general stores and gift shops
The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe owns and operates businesses around the neighborhood, including The Point Casino & Hotel and the Gliding Eagle Market, a convenience store established in 1973. In The Point Casino & Hotel, Kloomachin Kitchen is open from breakfast to lunch with lite meals and has additional options, such as surf and turf, during dinner service. While the community does not have a designated retail area, its neighbors Kingston and Port Gamble have additional shopping and dining options. Around Kingston, Safeway anchors a shopping center where Clever Gift Shop sells toys and handmade jewelry. Local restaurants line its downtown, including Sourdough Willy’s Pizzeria and The Kingston Ale House, where a patio overlooks the cove. West across Port Gamble, Port Gamble General Store and Café is a combination of a classic country store, restaurant and museum. At the front entrance, toys and farmhouse décor are sold; in the back, a café serves sandwiches and ice cream; upstairs, a maritime museum displays marine life.

Travels via highway, ferry and floating bridge
Hansville Road NE connects the community with Hansville, about 6 miles north. NE state Highway 104 leads to Kingston, nearly 7 miles southeast, and Port Gamble, around 10 miles west. Within Kingston, regular ferries depart to Edmonds and a fast ferry goes to Seattle. NE state Highway 104 also connects the community with the Olympic Peninsula via a bridge. “The Hood Canal Bridge is a floating military bridge nearby that opens up every time a submarine comes through,” says Pat Patton, a Windermere Real Estate West Sound Inc. broker specializing in Kitsap County. “It angers everyone who commutes because the Navy is slowing down traffic.”
The Hood Canal Floating Bridge spans across the Hood Canal and is a part of the Highway 104.
The Kingston-Edmonds Ferry makes a commute across the Puget Sound a breeze.

Single-family homes between fruit trees and waterfront
Fruit trees dot the landscape between single-family homes sitting on the ends of dirt driveways. Contemporary cabins were built after 2000 with wide front windows and porches for unobstructed nature viewing. Ranch-style homes were built between 1980 and 2010, some with hipped or cross-gabled roofs. Depending on property size and proximity to the water, all homes list roughly between $770,000 and $1 million.
