A dry town since 1978, Prospect Park residents must cross boundary lines even to purchase a lick of alcohol. However, it's completely legal to imbibe within the neighborhood.

Nestled in Passaic County, the borough's name honors Prospect Park, a large urban park in Brooklyn.

Many dwellings in Prospect Park are two-family, if not multi-family homes. Such houses are multiple stories with aluminum siding facades. Small front yards or green shrubbery are standard for these homes.

Single-family neighborhood homes are a mix of pre-war and post-war craftsman-style residences.

Prospect Park is home to six public schools, including Prospect Park Elementary and Manchester Regional High — the latter of which participates in the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program. This program allows New Jersey students to enroll in a school system outside their neighborhood at no expense to their families.

Tucked away at the end of a neighborhood, Hofstra Park is a lush green haven for residents. A walking/biking path snakes around the park. Children's laughter rings out as they run through the splash park and race down the playground slides. Cheer on the youth recreation teams at the newly installed artificial turf soccer field.

Grab your mitt and have a catch on one of Samuel Braen Memorial Park's baseball diamonds.

For some local flavor, head to one of Prospect Park's many Latin American restaurants, like Tucanes, a Costa Rican eatery or El Camino Feliz, a Dominican restaurant.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
