Former dairy farm turned growing residential suburb
In the early 20th century, Hyde Park was known for dairy farms and family-owned restaurants. The neighborhood’s last farms closed in the late 90s/early 2000s, and shortly after the restaurants closed. Now 20 years later, Hyde Park is a primarily residential area with planned communities, dirt roads and a somewhat isolated location west of the railroad tracks. Folks can drive around West 11th Street to glimpse the leftover pieces of the dairy farms, like abandoned buildings on larger lands.

Mix of master-planned communities and older homes
Hyde Park is on the west side of Pueblo, sitting east of Pueblo Boulevard and north of the Arkansas River. Since it’s relatively isolated, the neighborhood is less noisy and active than other parts of Pueblo. “That area has expanded immensity,” says Shelly Bueno, realtor at eXp Realty and Pueblo native. “They have more ranches, brick homes and larger lot sizes.” Since the beginning of the millennium, the neighborhood’s expansion started beginning north of 18th Street. One example is the master-planned community of Hyde Park Gardens, which completed construction in 2022, provides a suburban ambiance with larger trees alongside uniform single-story homes and two-car garages. Meanwhile, manufactured homes sit along dirt roads on the neighborhood’s northwest end. Home prices range from $150,000 to $335,000 for the newer ranches. South of 18th Street are early 20th to midcentury ranches, cottages and more manufactured homes. This section has an industrial and rural ambiance, where houses have moderately-sized yards and driveways enclosed by metal fences. Homes here sell between $160,000 for a cottage and $260,000 for a ranch.

Two miles from the large City Park
Hyde Park has a few parks located towards its south end. Donley Park offers a playground and green area. Graham Park provides more amenities such as multiple basketball courts, a playground and picnic benches. Off 18th Street are trail entry points connecting to the 30 miles of dirt and paved trails in Pueblo. City Park is Pueblo’s largest park, located 2 miles south. Kids can swim in the pool or run around the playground at the 157-acre park. “The City Park has a couple of kiddie rides like the carousel, and those are the original kiddie rides from the late 1800s,” Bueno says. Families can visit the 400 animals at the Pueblo Zoo. Competitive matches happen on the tennis courts and disc golf course. “If people around here are going on a walk, it’s most likely recreational,” she says. “City Park is a good place since it’s more scenic.”
