Rural feel 4 miles from Downtown Pueblo
West Park is Pueblo’s westernmost neighborhood. Located 4 miles from downtown, it has a remote feel compared to the rest of the city. Its quiet streets are matched with homes on larger lots and modest trees. West Park residents are right next to City Park and the Pueblo Zoo, and about a mile from swimming areas, campgrounds and marinas. “It’s very convenient to Lake Pueblo State Park, which is a popular spot for boating,” says Katie Ely, realtor at The Cutting Edge, Realtors who’s been selling in Pueblo for over five years. “We don’t have many rivers and lakes around Southern Colorado, so having that recreational water area is a huge draw.”

A mile from Lake Pueblo State Park
West Park lies in between some of the city's major recreation options. A mile to the west is Lake Pueblo State Park, a 10,000-acre park that with a reservoir that draws 3 million visitors annually. “People on the west side can actually hike the trails to go to the Pueblo Reservoir,” Ely says. Bikers and hikers often utilize the state park’s 20 miles of trails. “Everybody goes to the reservoir. There’s swimming, boating, paddleboarding and jet skiing,” Ely says. “People enjoy that area. On Memorial Day, they closed it by 10:30 in the morning because it was packed.” To the east is City Park, which contains 157 acres of recreation. Kids can entertain themselves on the playground or ride the carousel and trains for a quarter. Adults can participate in activities on the athletic courts or disc golf courses. Families can cool off in the swimming pool or visit at the park’s Pueblo Zoo, which has more than 400 animals. Golfers will appreciate the public Elmwood Golf Course, which has 18 holes.

West Park has very few paved sidewalks; most of them are closer to Pueblo Boulevard. Outside of that are roads leading into walkways eroded with rocks and sand. Within West Park is Stonemoor, a quiet, ritzy subdivision with contemporary and Mediterranean-style homes on lots of more than half an acre. Grand front lawns with large bushes and trees sit in front of homes with multi-car garages. These homes sell from $450,000 to $950,000. The neighborhood’s northeastern section is mostly early 20th to midcentury-style ranchers with lot sizes of up to 1.5 acres. These properties can include gravel driveways with garages. Selective admission to Goodnight Middle School
West Park students may start their education at Goodnight School. Pueblo’s only K-8 school earns a C grade from Niche. While Goodnight does have a middle school, admission to the sixth grade is not guaranteed. Parents must be successful in the school choice lottery to earn a spot for their kids. Those who are unsuccessful can enroll their children in the Pueblo Academy of Arts, a C-minus school. High school students can earn their diplomas from Central High, which earns a C grade.
