Wade is a modern Raleigh neighborhood in a central location

Centrally located in the western suburbs of Raleigh, Wade is a modern mixed residential and commercial development home to a thriving community of families and working professionals. “Wade is really cool. It’s a neat area nestled between Interstate 40 and Wade Avenue,” says Kathy Pitney, a local real estate agent with Keller Williams Elite Realty. “It’s a neighborhood where you can find these high-end, almost brownstone-style townhouses, and there’s a whole office park and commercial area right when you pull into the community.” The walkable development began construction in 2011, and homes were continuously built up through 2015. Proximity to the interstate and other major thoroughfares helps keep residents connected to the rest of the city. “Wade feels almost isolated in the way they’ve done it, but it’s still so close to so many things. It’s almost like a small town in and of itself,” Pitney says.

Brick and stone single-family homes and townhouses

Wade sports a balanced mix of contemporary Craftsman-style single-family homes and townhouses. Exteriors showcase a mix of brick and stone designs complemented by front-facing gables and large windows. Grassy front lawns are small but well-maintained and often landscaped with assorted hedges and garden features. “So many of the houses have front stoops, and the neighborhood feels very quaint and cozy,” Pitney says. Single-family properties typically range from approximately $550,000 to $750,000, while townhouses can sell for anywhere between $400,000 and $650,000. The neighborhood gets a CAP Index crime score of 7 out of 10, which is higher than the national average of 4.

Wake County Schools and North Carolina State University

Students in Wade are zoned for the Wake County Schools district, which receives an overall A-minus rating from Niche. Kindergarten through fifth-grade students can attend Reedy Creek Elementary, rated B-plus. Reedy Creek Magnet Middle and Athens Drive Magnet High School are A-rated institutions that offer advanced academic programs. “Wade is also right behind the Cardinal Gibbons High School, which is a private Catholic school, and it’s definitely one of the top-notch schools in the area,” Pitney says. She also notes that the neighborhood is situated at the edge of the North Carolina State University campus, a public university that is the largest in the state.

Community parks and sporting arenas within walking distance

Wade residents can find a handful of outdoor recreation amenities within the neighborhood, including a playground and a gated dog park. Pitney notes that residents also have access to a community swimming pool. Snaking through the neighborhood’s eastern end is Richland Creek Trail, a paved Raleigh greenway that runs north to the nearby 245-acre Carl Alwin Schenck Memorial Forest. Right across the street from Wade is the side-by-side Lenovo Center and the nearly 57,000-seat Carter-Finley Stadium. “The Lenovo Center hosts sports games and concerts – they recently hosted an NCAA tournament game,” Pitney says. “The Carolina Hurricanes also play in the Lenovo Center, so if you live in Wade, you can walk right across the street to go watch a hockey game.”

Local restaurants in the Wade area

There are several dining options within the Wade development and within walking distance of residents. Wade Café is a popular breakfast spot that serves an assortment of grab-and-go foods. Across the Wade Park greenspace is Bru’s Public House and Spring Rolls, an eatery specializing in Asian fare. Additional shopping and dining options aren’t far from the neighborhood, given its proximity to other metropolitan areas: “You can flip out the back of the neighborhood and find yourself in downtown Cary,” Pitney says. Three miles south of Wade is the Plaza West Shopping Center, home to a Harris Teeter supermarket and Dollar Tree store.

Access to Raleigh interstate corridors

With direct access to the Interstate 40 corridor bordering Wade, residents are close to one of Raleigh’s busiest thoroughfares. Commuters can also take Wade Avenue east to merge onto the Interstate 440 beltway or continue on for approximately 7 miles to downtown Raleigh. Wade is a car-dependent neighborhood with minimal public transit options, but some university- and city-operated bus lines run near the North Carolina State University campus. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is a 7-mile drive away, just off I-40.
