Wildwood Green is a golf course community in North Raleigh
In Raleigh’s far north suburbs, Wildwood Green is an idyllic country club and golf course community where stately homes line lush, well-maintained fairways. “In this neighborhood, you’re pretty much going to find all single-family homes mostly built around the year 1990,” says Kathy Pitney, a local Realtor with Keller Williams Elite Realty. Although the golf course that these homes were built on dates back to 1960, the Wildwood Green Golf Club wasn’t established until 1986. In 1996, the course underwent extensive renovation and was updated to accommodate players of all skill levels. Eleven miles from downtown, this neighborhood has a quieter, more natural atmosphere that maintains proximity to commercial conveniences. “North Raleigh is super popular because you don’t have all the chaos of the city’s downtown, but you still have access to plenty of other things,” Pitney says. “Wildwood Green is right next to Interstate 540, which makes it very easy to get to places like the airport and anywhere else in the North Raleigh area.” This neighborhood also has an overall CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Upscale Colonial Revivals and New Traditional homes sell fast
As a desirable community, Wildwood Green fosters a competitive housing market where properties sell within 21 days on average after being listed, which is less than half of the 46-day national average. Larger custom-built Colonial Revivals and Georgian-style properties can range from about $750,000 to $950,000, while smaller homes with New Traditional architecture often cost between $550,000 and $700,000. This neighborhood also has a very active HOA that requires residents to pay monthly fees, which differ price-wise, depending on the property. Although street parking is available, the roads here are kept mostly clear, as residents prefer to park along their paved driveways or in attached garages. Wide, low-traffic roads compensate for the neighborhood’s lack of sidewalks and are frequently used by joggers and dog walkers.
Highly rated Wake County public schools and charter academies
Wildwood Green is zoned for the Wake County Public School System, which receives an overall A rating from Niche. Barton Pond Elementary – which serves the neighborhood’s prekindergarten through fifth-grade students – opened its doors in August 2022 and receives a 7 out of 10 GreatSchools rating. Located on the neighborhood’s western border, this brand-new elementary school is also within walking distance of residents. Older students can attend the Leesville Road Middle, which earns an A from Niche, and, later on, Leesville Road High School, which has an A-minus rating. Another school within walking distance of the neighborhood is Trinity Academy, a private Christian institution that serves prekindergarten through 12th grade and has an A Niche score. Less than a mile from Wildwood Green is Quest Academy Charter School, a highly rated institution with a lottery-based application and enrollment process. With less than 150 students across kindergarten through eighth grade, admission here is competitive, and there are specific requirements to apply. In 2025, Quest Academy was ranked by Niche as the No. 2 public elementary school and public middle school in the state.
Wildwood Green Golf Club recreational amenities
No matter what part of the neighborhood they live in, residents are close to Wildwood Green’s 18-hole golf course. Open all year long, this course engulfs the community and is accompanied by a driving range, a clubhouse and a golf shop. In 2017, the golf club added Champion Bermudagrass greens, a high-quality turf that improves putting on the course and is easier to maintain. Other Wildwood Green Golf Club recreation amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and an adjacent gated tennis court complex. Residents can also find walking trails and picnic spots throughout the neighborhood. Bordering the neighborhood, Barton Pond Elementary School has a playground and an open grass field used for sports like soccer. Between the Wildwood Green Golf Club and neighborhood HOA, residents can find calendars full of community events, golf tournaments and holiday festivities.
Shopping centers with chain and local businesses
Commercial centers with everyday essentials are as close as a mile away from Wildwood Green. “People might go to the downtown area for shopping and dining, but North Raleigh also has its own thing going on,” Pitney says. The nearest shopping center, Brennan Station, is 1 mile south and has several small businesses, national retailers like Dollar Tree and Office Depot, and two grocery stores: Trader Joe’s and Harris Teeter. Dining options at Brennan Station range from chain fast-food restaurants to local eateries like Creedmoor Café. Just west of the neighborhood down Strickland Road is another small shopping area that is home to a Food Lion and the popular NoRa Café. Short for Northern Raleigh, NoRa Café is a beloved eatery in the area that supports the community through partnerships with local artists, coffee roasters, bookshops and brewers.
Immediate access to Interstate 540
The I-540 corridor, also called the Northern Wake Expressway, runs immediately north of Wildwood Green and through Raleigh’s greater northern metro area. Raleigh-Durham International is west of the neighborhood along the expressway: “Wildwood Green is about 10 minutes away from the airport,” Pitney says. “It’s pretty easy to get where you need to go from the airport, including to larger hubs like Newark or direct flights to big cities.” 4 miles farther west of the airport is Research Triangle Park, a major workplace complex. With over 300 companies across 7,000 acres of land, it is the largest research park in the country. “It’s very well known for biomedical and technological research companies like Cisco and Lenovo; Apple is also supposed to build a campus there someday,” Pitney says. “Everyone who lives in Raleigh and works there has to commute west to get to Research Triangle Park, so traffic can be an issue during rush hour.”
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
