About Red Bank, NJ

About Red Bank, NJ

Small and vibrant borough with good walkability

Red Bank sits on the scenic Navesink River, just 15 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and popular beaches. There are no in-town beaches, but Red Bank is a destination for its trendy walkable town and lively cultural scene. River Giberson, an experienced agent who owns C21 Thomson & Co., moved here in 2014. “I wanted a slower pace but still be close to NYC, he shares. “I also wanted great restaurants, shopping and walkability.” His clients move here for the same reasons. “I’ve seen a huge influx of young professionals from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jersey City and Hoboken since the pandemic started,” he adds, noting that the town’s proximity to beaches is another draw.

Trendy spots within walking distance

Dozens of businesses are found along Broad Street, as well as Monmouth, White and West Front streets. These include diverse restaurants, boutiques and art galleries. Giberson mentions favorite local spots include Birravino, a rustic spot serving beer and authentic Italian food. JBJ Soul Kitchen is rocker Jon Bon Jovi’s labor of love, a donation-based community restaurant. Coffee Corral is hugely popular for its house-roasted beans and live music, representing a growing number of businesses on the west side of town. Locals also hang out at laid-back Jamian’s Food and Drink for live entertainment along with casual Red Rock, taking advantage of its outdoor waterfront decks and live music in the summer. For culture, Count Basie Center for the Arts shows everything from musicals to comedy and Two River Theater Company is a professional regional theater company that performs plays. Shopping includes tons of antique stores, familiar chains and on-trend independent shops, like Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, a destination comic book store owned by filmmaker Kevin Smith. For additional shopping, more chains are found in Middletown and Eatontown, while The Grove at Shrewsbury is an outdoor mall just outside of town.

Year-round community events

Red Bank likes to celebrate all year long, from its annual Sidewalk Sale to its Christmas tree lighting and parade. And summer brings Broadwalk, turning parts of Broad Street into a pedestrian-only hangout for outdoor dining.

Older colonials and waterfront townhomes

Red Bank fits into 1.75 miles, so most homes are within walking distance of local businesses. The housing stock comprises early 19th-century colonials and most are on smaller lots. Giberson mentions how there’s been a lot of new development on the west side, including the Azalea Red Bank, a luxury townhome community. However, Giberson adds that west side properties generally remain more affordable. Single-family homes range between $450,000 and $900,000. There are more than a dozen condos, with one-bedrooms starting at $400,000. Although a new condo building, Southbank at the Navesink, has units starting at $2.2 million. The overall median housing price is $550,000, with prices ranging from $265,000 to $2.2 million.
