Broadway is the anchor of Downtown Redwood City's shopping district

Downtown Redwood City’s shopping district is centered around Broadway and fans out between Main Street and El Camino Real. The open-air district is full of popular retailers like the Grocery Outlet, Savers and Barnes & Noble. Condos and apartments dominate the neighborhood

Downtown Redwood City mostly has apartments and condos to offer. Studio units for sale can range from between $1 million and $5.8 million, while one- to four-bedroom units tend to sit around $2 million. Single-family homes can be found in adjacent neighborhoods. These small craftsman cottages and midcentury homes can range from $880,000 to $2 million. Homes in the area are moving quickly, largely because the inventory across the bay area is limited. “The turnaround is about 21 days,” Pappalardo says.

Redwood City hosts the largest Fourth of July parade in northern California

Redwood City hosts several annual events downtown throughout the year. One of the most popular events is the city’s Independence Day parade. The first one was held in 1939, and since then, it has grown to be the largest Fourth of July parade in northern California. The parade winds through historic downtown during the day. The celebration culminates with a fireworks show over the port of Redwood City later that evening. Five times a year, residents can also attend local art fairs in Courthouse Square. There are four Art on the Square events in the summer and one around the holiday season.

Roselli Mini-Park is the most substantial recreation ground in downtown Redwood City

Roselli Mini-Park is a small grassy knoll situated next to the Redwood City Public Library. It serves as an outdoor extension of the library, offering shaded seating areas. Residents looking for a park with more amenities can head about 1 mile east to Hoover Park. It spans over 10 acres and offers sports facilities, picnic areas, a playground and a swimming pool. The city is also about 4 miles from hiking trails in large natural areas such as Edgewood Park and Pulgas Ridge. For indoor fun, residents can explore the San Mateo County History Museum or catch a show at the historic Fox Theater in the heart of downtown’s shopping district.

Downtown Redwood City is the halfway point between San Francisco and San Jose

Downtown Redwood City is centrally located on the San Francisco Peninsula, placing it about 20 miles from both San Francisco and San Jose. The neighborhood is also flanked by three major highways: California State Route 82 to the southwest, California State Route 84 to the southeast, and U.S. Route 101 to the northeast. Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Offices sits just to the north of the city’s shopping district. On the other end of the shopping district sits Redwood City Station. Public commuter trains run through the station. Bay Area Rapid Transit also serves this neighborhood. Public bus stops are along Route 82, Marshall Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Sequoia High School offers a specialized Health Career Academy

Kids may begin their schooling in the Redwood City Elementary School District. They may attend Clifford School and Kennedy Middle School, graded a B or better on Niche. They can move up to Sequoia High School in the Sequoia Union High School District. Sequoia High received an A grade on Niche. It is known for its Health Career Academy, which invites 10th through 12th graders to learn in a small learning community to help expose them to and train them for careers in health care fields.
