Midcentury homes on leafy residential streets
Redwood Village’s residential streets feature an array of older homes, most of which were built in the mid-20th century. Ranch homes, split-levels and bungalows are the most common designs here. Lots are typically small, around 5,000 square feet, but still have plenty of room for gardening and landscaping. Apartments with single-car garages can also be found along Oakside Avenue. Smaller homes often price between $800,000 and $1.2 million while homes with three bedrooms or more can range from $1.1 million to $1.4 million. Redwood Village's housing market is relatively competitive with many homes selling between four and five weeks.
Like much of the Bay Area, home prices in Redwood Village and Redwood City have skyrocketed over the last few decades. “I’ve been doing this for 47 years. I remember selling homes in Redwood Village for $70,000,” says Realtor Arnoldo Arreola of Re/Max Gold, a longtime Redwood City resident. Arreola says Silicon Valley’s rapid expansion is behind the city’s growth — and its rising housing prices. “We’re transitioning from being a small town to a big city.”

Walk to Sigona’s Farmers Market
Shopping options are just a quick walk or drive away. Sigona's Farmers Market, off Middlefield Road, is a family-owned, open-air grocery store that’s been a staple among Redwood City locals since 1975. Just a block away is Tacos El Grullense E&E, a local mainstay revered for its authentic tacos, burritos and quesadillas. A Costco Wholesale is stationed directly across the street from Sigona's while a Target and Marshalls department store sit at the southern end of the neighborhood off El Camino Real. For more restaurant and shopping options, there are plenty of hidden gems in downtown Redwood City. "During the summertime, let me tell you, Redwood City has the most beautiful attractions every weekend," Hurchanik says. "They have music, it's close to the Bay and it's very cultural."

Community parks and rec centers close to home
There are plenty of parks in the neighborhood, many of which residents can walk to. Hoover Park is behind Hoover Elementary School and has a several soccer fields, a playground and a basketball court. Right next door is The Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula, where kids can participate in indoor activities and classes after school lets out. At the opposite end of the neighborhood is Andrew Spinas Park, where walking paths wind around a grassy meadow lined with palm trees. It’s basketball courts and playground get busy on the weekends. It’s about 3 miles northwest to Bair Island Wildlife Refuge & Trail for glimpses at local wildlife and picturesque views of the San Francisco Bay.

Highly rated Sequoia High
Redwood Village is close to several strong schools. Students are served by the Redwood City Elementary School District and Sequoia Union High School District. From kindergarten through Grade 8, children can go to Hoover Elementary School, which earns an overall Niche grade of C. Students can then move on to A-rated Sequoia High School, which Niche ranks as one of the best high schools in San Mateo County. It offers a wide variety of academic career pathways, including an International Baccalaureate program, a Digital Arts academy and a Health Careers Academy. While, highly regarded Stanford University is 4 miles east of the neighborhood, the school has a presence in the neighborhood. The Stanford Redwood City campus has about 10 administrative buildings on a 35-acre site, that employees about 1,800 people.

Getting around the Peninsula
Redwood Village is walkable, but residents will likely need a car for morning commutes to San Francisco, Palo Alto or San Jose. The neighborhood has excellent road and highway access, though. State Route 101, known as the Bayshore Freeway, skirts the northside of the community, while Woodside Road travels along its western edge. For those who prefer to travel by rail, there's a Caltrain station a mile west in downtown Redwood City. Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center is the nearest major hospital, about a mile away.
