Convenience is king
There’s a reason Reno is nicknamed “the Biggest Little City in the World.” Nevada’s third-largest city is home to a vibrant entertainment industry, dozens of shopping centers, the state’s flagship public college and stunning desert landscapes. Nowhere are residents better situated to enjoy all these aspects of Renoite life than in the neighborhood of Kings Row. This primarily residential neighborhood is surrounded by shopping centers, university housing, major parks and Reno’s iconic downtown. Realtor Jessica Hodges of Wedgewood Homes Realty says, “It’s as close as you can get to downtown Reno without feeling like you’re downtown.” This neighborhood pairs a relaxed, suburban feel with easy access to conveniences. Hodges says, “If you go to the McCarran Loop, there’s anything you can want, with around 50 restaurants and a couple shopping centers.”
Food fit for a king
One of Kings Row’s most attractive features is its proximity to shopping centers and trendy eateries. Hodges says, “The biggest thing is the proximity to the university. There are restaurants and nightlife within walking distance, there’s a lot of Starbucks and Bighorn Tavern is pretty popular.” Bighorn Tavern has long been a popular gathering place for sports fans and gourmands alike, as customers can catch a game on its many TVs while enjoying dishes from burgers and banh mis to tacos and wings. Kings Row also has more upscale dining outlets like Johnny’s Ristorante, which serves elegant Italian cuisine. The Whispering Vine, self-described as Reno’s “premier wine and spirits purveyor for over 25 years,” may supply the right bottle of wine for date night. Residents can also do their grocery shopping at Save Mart, Safeway and Raley’s.

Natural recreation, Nevada-style
Kings Row is bounded by the desert to the north and the Truckee River to the south, opening up plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The river is a popular local fishing outlet, while dog-walking and jogging down Kings Row’s quiet, shaded streets add to this neighborhood’s relaxing pastimes. Residents can also visit Sky Country Park to play a game of volleyball or horseshoes, while Summit Ridge Park includes picnic tables and water play toys for the little ones. Nearby Rancho San Rafael Park includes nature trails and the Evans Canyon hiking area, where visitors can immerse themselves in desert brushland for a scenic walk. Rancho San Rafael Park is also home to one of Reno’s most famous events, the annual Great Reno Balloon Race. This event, held ever September, is the world’s largest free hot-air balloon event. Onlookers can witness the grand spectacle of over 100 hot air balloons floating above the Nevada horizon.

A stroll down any of Kings Row’s streets may convince residents that they are deep in the suburbs; tree-shaded lanes are flanked by sidewalks, sizeable lawns and ranch-style houses built from the 1970s to 1990s. Hodges says, “It’s older homes primarily, with lots of brick-built houses, mature trees and large yards. It’s close to the university, so there’s a lot of university housing.” Kings Row’s homes range in price from $275,000 to nearly $1 million, with two-bedroom houses filling out the lower tier and newer townhouses and 4-bedroom New Traditional homes fetching higher prices.
