An avenue to Reno's suburbia
Situated at the northwestern edge of Reno, Mae Anne Avenue serves as the transportation lifeline of this suburban region. Dozens of side-streets branch off from this winding road and lead into quiet residential areas lined with tree-shaded houses, sizeable driveways and sidewalks fit for strolling. Parks and nature add to this green neighborhood's appeal; Realtor Jessica Hodges of Wedgewood Homes Realty says, “It’s cool because it’s really close to the Truckee River. You’ve got big, mature trees, as well as an array of old and new houses with decent yards.” With shopping centers sitting at every edge of this neighborhood, residents have easy access to everyday necessities and diverse shopping and dining options alike, while all three levels of public education sit within or near this compact, yet convenient community.
Verdant laws and varying aesthetics
Mae Anne is among Reno’s newer suburbs, with most of its houses dating to the late 1980s and 1990s. These homes vary in style from Tudor Revivals and Mediterranean-influenced homes to the ubiquitous New Traditional and ranch styles of suburban housing. These residences tend to be characterized by spacious backyards, ample foliage and rock work in front yards. Some residential areas even overlook the eastern slopes of the nearby sierras, while others sit in the shadow of the towering Peavine Peak. Home prices can start at $315,000 for a two-bedroom and two-bathroom home and can go as high as $820,000 for a palatial five-bed and three-bathroom residence.

Strong STEM and athletics at McQueen High
Mae Anne Avenue puts students around the block from all three levels of public education, from Sarah Winnemucca Elementary School – given a B rating from Niche – to BD Billinghurst Middle School and Robert McQueen High School, both of which receive B-plus ratings. McQueen is home to the Lancers high school football team, which has won multiple state championships, and its STEM programs have also ranked among the top 30 within all of Nevada's high schools.

Strolls and sledding at local parks
Mae Anne Avenue is full of walking trails that wind through the neighborhood, and it’s common to see a lot of foot traffic from walkers and bikers alike. Northgate Park is a popular venue for field sports and even sledding during the winter months, while Rainbow Bridge Park invites visitors to have picnics, shoot hoops, let their dogs frolic and explore its trails. Canyon Creek Park offers additional opportunities for outdoor play, including courts for volleyball and horseshoes. Perhaps most popular is this neighborhood's proximity to the river. Hodges says, "The river is the shining star, as you can float, swim and do cold plunges. It’s also a quick drive to North Lake Tahoe.”

Smoothies, sushi and shopping at Mae Anne's malls
While Mae Anne Avenue is a primarily residential neighborhood, it is home to several shopping centers that offer both grocery conveniences and dozens of restaurants and other retail outlets. The largest shopping hub is located along McCarran Boulevard, where residents can find the local Walmart, Safeway, PetSmart and several brand-name restaurants. Within the neighborhood, at McQueen Crossings, shoppers can pick up their groceries at Raley’s. Breakfast lovers may enjoy a visit to Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs, a fixture of Reno dining. This family-owned, local franchise combines American, Mexican and Hawaiian foods and serves up hearty meals from dawn until 2 PM. Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade brings tropical flavor to each morning by serving up superfood smoothies and acai bowls, Sushi Rose offers a wide selection of hand-crafted rolls and Old World Coffee Roasters sources high-quality coffees. This community may be a relatively quiet part of Reno, but access to major roads puts residents within a six-mile drive from downtown events like the Hot August Nights car show and Artown’s artistic events every July.
One of Reno's most notable breakfast joints, the Squeeze In, can be found in Mae Anne Avenue.

Mobility in Mae Anne
Mae Anne Avenue is connected to the rest of Reno by the McCarran Loop and Interstate 80; Hodges says, "You can jump on I-80 and go to California pretty easily, and be up to Truckee in 20 minutes.” Downtown Reno is accessible within a 5.5-mile and 10-minute drive, while, using I-80, residents can take Exit 188 to visit Lake Tahoe’s skiing villages for weekend fun.
